Employment Type: Full timeShift: Day ShiftDescription:Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for an experienced Full-time Surgical Technologist to join our Surgical Services team!Schedule: Full-time day shift, Monday - Friday / On call coverageThis person will assist registered nurses in planning patient's surgical intervention in a logic sequence according to established physician's preference card, scheduled procedure, and individual patient needsEssential Duties Include:Documents accurate and ongoing patient information on the perioperative record and specimen slips according to the perioperative record guidelinesCollaborate with other team members, surgeons, and anesthesiologists to assure patient's well-beingIs alert to potential performance improvement problems, reports information to charge nurse and managers, and actively participates in problem solvingDemonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unitMaintains asepsisChecks indicators and integrity of packages for each patient procedureRecognizes unseen boundaries between sterile and nonsterilePerforms proper scrub according to departmental policyPrepares instrumentation according to physician's preference cards and scheduled procedureDemonstrates proper concepts of draping according to department standardsAccurately performs all sponge, needle, and sharp instrument counts at appropriate times with registered nurseDemonstrates proper use of instruments, equipment, suturing, and stapling devicesSaves and properly identifies all specimens according to department policy and procedureFollows department policy for wearing protective eyewear during proceduresPrepares the case cart postoperatively for central sterilizing return according to department policyPrepares and properly disposes of sharps, blood, and waste according to hospital/department safety policyImmediately communicates any changes in procedures, patient condition, or procedure needs to the supervising registered nurseAssists the surgeons in dressing applicationAssists in transporting patient to proper postoperative locationPerforms clinical preceptor role for his or her specialty serviceHas working knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices in the ORKeeps RN aware of significant patient changesAttends and contributes to staff educational meetingsTakes ownership of the customer's problems and follows through on the problem that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of commandMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma requiredGraduate of School for Operating Room Technicians requiredPrevious hospital or surgi-center experience requiredCertification as a Surgical Technologist highly preferredWe offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits including:Medical, Dental, & Vision Coverage (Effective First day of Hire!)Retirement Savings ProgramPaid Time OffTuition ReimbursementFree ParkingAnd more!Our CommitmentRooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
