- develop a thorough understanding of projects’ design philosophy and provide major input in developing a design and building performance strategy and effectively convey this to assigned team members when appropriate;
- provide technical design input and support for the development of the entire design concept;
- be responsible for a project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work, in close collaboration with Senior Designer;
- participate in and lead component team meetings to support a collaborative Target Value Design (TVD) process with key project stakeholders including the Construction Manager, key subcontractors and internal team members;
- seek creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documents to support these solutions;
- actively collaborate with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure the project deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the design concept and performance goals of the project;
- contribute to the preparation of design documents and lead the detailed development of construction documents during all project phases, delivering complete, accurate and coordinated project documentation;
- advance the production of schematic, design development, construction document drawings and specifications in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost and design intent;
- maintain awareness of evolving building technology and systems;
- review shop drawings, material samples and CD’s for conformance with design;
- perform construction administration duties (e.g. RFI’s, RFP’s, change orders, etc.);
- prepare reports and specifications; reviews completed reports, plans, cost estimates and calculations;
- execute applicable agency review analysis (accessibility, zoning, life-safety, etc.);
- establish architectural budget, task schedule and other components of the project work plan in collaboration with Project Manager;
- implement meeting objectives, facilitates meetings and provides meeting notes documentation;
- maintain contact with clients, consultants and contractors during all project phases, participating in marketing, client and owner presentations as required; and
- set an example for team effort through the spirit of cooperation while directing, organizing and mentoring junior staff.
- Bachelor's degree in architecture; Master's degree preferred
- Architectural registration required
- 15+ years of experience and includes working on small- to large-scale project types
- OSHPD experience required
- LEED accreditation preferred
- Strong graphics skills are an essential
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and other industry accepted software as well as expertise with project management software and Microsoft Office Suite products is needed.
- Understanding of the healthcare industry, especially in areas of clinical innovation, operational improvement, planning and strategic positioning for complex hospital systems is needed.
- Experience with Lean and Evidence-based design a plus. Proficiency in Revit required; Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, and other graphic tools desired as well as expertise with Project Manager software and Microsoft Office products is needed.
