RECREATION LEADER 2The Tukwila Community Center is looking to hire multiple Recreation Leaders to work with our Summer programs! This is a great opportunity to serve as a positive role model and make a difference in your community!As a Recreation Leader 2 you will assist the Recreation Site Supervisor and the Program Specialist with direct supervision of programs. This position is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementing and supervising activities, program participants, and subordinate staff.You will leave at the end of the summer having gained skills in program development and you will have the opportunity to create a safe, welcoming, fun environment for our community!!!Note: These are non-benefited positions working up to 40 hours per week. All positions are limited duration, part-time and will not exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month period.

You will assist the Site Supervisor in the oversight of daily operations and activities, which includes leading organized games, arts & crafts, special events, field trips and other camp activities. Must be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (actual schedule to be determined) and be able to work the duration of the program through September 1st. This position will have a set work schedule, 40 hours per week.2) TeenVenture Camp - you will be responsible for leading group activities for middle school aged children. You will assist the Site Supervisor in the oversight of daily operations and activities, which includes leading organized games, arts & crafts, special events, field trips and other camp activities. Will be responsible for driving a City Recreation vehicle daily to pre-selected field trip sites. Must be available to work Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (actual schedule to be determined) and be able to work the duration of the program through September 1st. This position will have a set work schedule., 40 hours per week.Job Duties:Assists in providing direct leadership and supervision over programs and events.Safeguards program staff and participants and provides for a clean and safe working environment.Assists in completing and maintaining proper forms, reports and information for the camp staff , participants and parents.Assists in the development and implementation of age and grade appropriate activities for programs.Build strong relationships with parents, participants and coworkers.Ability to communicate well with parents on discipline and other participant communication.Assists in the responsibility for tracking and coordinating equipment supply orders (as needed).Assists in coordinating staff schedules as well as daily camp schedules.Assists in coordinating weekly field trips to local parts and attractions.Assists in providing feedback for staff performance.Ability to drive a 15-passenger van with camp participants to offsite camp field trips.Assists in cleaning and maintaining designated camp vans.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to plan, lead and supervise activities for all programs.Working knowledge of hazards and safety practices.Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.Ability to coordinate, inspire and motivate others.Ability to work with diverse populations and large groups in a positive, professional, and courteous manner.Ability to work independently as well as support a collaborative team environment with common goals.Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program staff, participants, volunteers, parents, Recreation staff, and the general public.Physical ability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position.Outstanding organizational skills, including ability to outline and schedule tasks, anticipate issues and needs, be detail-oriented, work within deadlines, communicate regularly and track progress.Ability to work with little or no supervision.Education, Experience and Other RequirementsPossess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.Must be at least 18 years of age.Experience in Microsoft Office programsCollege-level coursework in Recreation, Education, or related field and/or minimum of (1) one year of experience in a similar work environment.Special Requirements:Must possess a valid Driver's License/ID, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.Must be physically capable of assisting and participating in physical activities.Maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain prior to employment.Selection Guidelines:These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Camp Tukwilly is a Youth Day Camp at the Tukwila Community Center for children 5 - 11 years old. Employees will typically work 20 - 40 hours per week depending on availability and program needs. Shifts will range from 4 - 10 hours per day; most shifts will be 8 hours.
  • TeenVenture Camp operates at the Tukwila Community Center and is for children 10 - 13 years old. Employees will typically work 20 - 40 hours per week. Shifts will range from 4 - 10 hours per day; most shifts will be 8 hours.
