- AS//AA degree in related discipline
- Relevant professional certs, particularly electrical certs
- Increased understanding and ability in electronics, computer, and PLC programming
- CAD highly desirable
- Assists in installation of new equipment including conduit and wiring, building industrial equipment control panels, and startup testing.
- Performs troubleshooting, installation, and modification of increasingly complex electrical and control systems including but not limited to, components such as mechanical relays, solid state relays, programmable logic controllers, ethernet networking switches and infrastructure, temperature controllers, thermocouples, heaters and refrigeration units, variable frequency drives, AC synchronous motors, motor starters, contactors, potentiometers, timers, circuit protection devices, and pneumatically and electrically driven valves.
- Systems include low to high voltage single and multi-phase power systems (3-Phase 460VAC/208VAC, single phase 220/120VAC) and low voltage power and signal/communication systems (e.g. 24VDC, 0-10VDC, 4-20mA, millivolt signals), digital communication protocols (e.g.RS-232/RS-485 ASCII/MODBUS RTU), and Ethernet based protocols (e.g. MODBUS TCP).
- Works from increasingly complex drawings, electrical drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, manuals and verbal/written instructions on installation, repair, replacement and/or maintenance of process equipment and electrical/control systems.
- Update, modify, and generate electrical drawings as needed based on repair, upgrades, or new equipment design and implementation.
- Works closely with engineers, mechanics, calibration technicians, and operators in day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment.
- Has increasingly familiarity with operation and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to aid in the evaluation of electrical vs other causes.
- Initiates purchase orders for parts, equipment, and contracted services.
- Carefully approaches and analyzes situations that could directly impact personnel safety due to sensors and equipment used to control or limit machine range of motion, speed, temperature or pressure or that operate interlocks.
- Schedules equipment downtime for repairs and upgrades/installations while working with the manufacturing schedule to minimize downtime.
