- Process, analyze, and verify laboratory test results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to quality standards
- Perform laboratory testing with proficiency in multiple areas including Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Immunology, and Urinalysis
- Conduct technical procedures for examination of human blood, tissues, and fluids
- Execute quality control procedures on assigned instruments and methods per Quality Control protocols
- Analyze and interpret test and control data, including reviewing critical values
- Notify appropriate personnel of critical values according to established protocols with documented read-back
- Perform equipment maintenance and troubleshoot instrument issues promptly
- Run calibration of methods as needed according to instrument specifications
- Document test results accurately and completely in laboratory information systems
- Assist in the preparation and loading of reagents, calibrators, and quality control materials
- Perform lot-to-lot validations and document results appropriately
- Complete proficiency testing as assigned following laboratory protocols
- Maintain laboratory records and perform proper specimen handling
- Comply with all laboratory safety rules, regulations, and procedures
- Promote a culture of safety within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service
- Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, VHA policies, and procedures
- Complete all required training and maintain competencies
- Participate in staff meetings and continuing education activities
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or related field
- Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Generalist Medical Technologist
- Experience with laboratory equipment including but not limited to: Abbott Alinity, Abbott Architect, TOSOH G8, Sysmex XN 3100, ACL-Top 350, IRIS Systems, and other relevant instrumentation preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, methodologies, and Quality Control practices
- Ability to successfully undergo a Government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong computer and technical skills, with proficiency in laboratory information systems
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management abilities
