This position reports to the Dean and/or Associate Dean of Manufacturing and Maintenance Division and/or the Welding Technology Program Coordinator. The ship fitting instructor will submit reports in timely manner; practice effective class management, prioritize duties and use time wisely, adhere to class schedules and meeting times, provide effective classroom/lab supervision, maintain accurate records, handle students' work and records in professional manner and perform other duties as required.
This position requires a minimum of five (5) years' of work experience as a carpenter, metal fabricator or ship fitter and a high school diploma. Candidates with an Associate degree in metal fabrication, welding technology or a closely related field is preferredProvide an in-depth understanding of the duties of a shipfitter or metal fabricator and possess a safety conscious attitude to prepare students for a career in heavy steel manufacturing. The instructor will teach curriculum in all aspects of shipfitting including but not limited to performing basic math and measurement calculations with fractions, decimals and basic plane geometry, Interpretation of blueprints and schematics, Interpretation of welding processes and symbols, Identifying basic shop tools and equipment, demonstrating competence in basic metal fabrication tools and equipment applications, performing basic cutting operations with OFC and Plasma Arc and performing basic layout procedures from blueprints and job specifications.To be considered for this position applicants MUST complete the online SC State Jobs Employment Application.
