
Emergency Department Technician - Per Diem

- Performs all patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse and functions in the role of assistant to the nursing staff.
- Provides and maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient, including assisting patients with getting in and out of bed; orienting patients to call light and side rails, maintaining accessibility and answering call light in a timely fashion; staying with restless patients; making and instructing in the use of cough pillows; and assisting in the collection of medical data, vital signs, and cardiac monitoring.
- Assists the Registered Nurse with specific components of admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, such as preparation of the unit, transferring patients to beds, assembling patients' belongings, and accompanying patients as directed.
- Assists the Registered Nurse with ADLs, such as partial bed baths, assistance with shower and sit baths, as appropriate for patient; filling water pitchers and serving nourishments; and recording intake and output.
- Assists with collection of specimens including phlebotomy.
- Documents vital signs and I&O on appropriate forms and EMR.
- Disposes of trash and linen on an ongoing basis.
- Maintains knowledge of and complies with infectious diseases policy and procedures, such as appropriately caring for patients on precautions, using protective measures as deemed appropriate, and separating and disposing of infectious materials appropriately.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience:
- Requires previous Nursing Assistant experience or for nursing students, one clinical rotation completed.
- Computer skills required.
- Certification/Licensure:
- CNA license preferred
- BLS
- Software/Hardware: Knowledge of Meditech preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language.
- Able to complete mathematical computations required to perform treatment protocols.
- Able to lift, transfer, and move patients.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Phlebotomy skills preferred.
