Our residential programs embrace a Housing First, Harm Reduction philosophy to meet our participants where they are. We are widely recognized across Allegheny County for providing the highest quality of support and service to our participants, and serve individuals diagnosed with behavioral health and substance use disorder. There are minimal rules that individuals must follow in order to assure a safe environment for all program participants. This allows for a long period of engagement that gives residents time to develop trust in staff and the program.The purpose of this position is to greet all customers, patients, and visitors. This position will conduct all safety research on all patients and visitors who access the building. This position will also assist in managing the front desk as well as supporting the milieu as needed. This position will assist program leadership in development and implementation of safety management for the walk-in and residential environment.Responsibilities:Team Collaboration & Communication
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and assigned committees
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and provide appropriate information
  • Assist in orientation of new crisis staff
Safety & Security
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by enforcing UPMC policies and procedures
  • Perform safety searches on all patients and visitors entering the building
  • Respond to crisis situations as part of a team
  • Report safety concerns involving patients, visitors, or staff immediately
  • Handle disruptive individuals using verbal de-escalation; physical intervention as a last resort
Customer Service & Support
  • Provide customer service to patients, visitors, and staff
  • Demonstrate knowledge of mental health laws in interactions
Documentation & Incident Management
  • Complete reports and incident documentation as needed
  • Manage evidence, valuables, and lost/found items appropriately
HS Diploma required.Bachelor's degree preferred, 2 years of experience in safety, crisis intervention, mental health, de-escalation or related field preferred.Ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment to both psychiatric and medical emergencies.Must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill residents including lifting, supporting, running toward or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing or pulling equipment.Ability to defuse and handle distraught or hostile person(s) in a professional manner required.Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.Ability to work under stress, with an unpredictable consumer flow, Flexible schedule, and rotating shifts.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
  • OAPSA with renewal
