OverviewThe Social Worker provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, attendance outreach, and workshops to young adults and assists in implementing other aspects of the program. He/she also Engages in extensive, collaborative work with Department of Education (DOE) teachers and administrators.Reports To: Program Director, Stevenson High School YABCLocation: 1980 Lafayette Ave, Bronx, New York 10473Hours: 35 Hours/Week; September to JuneMonday -Thursday 12:30pm-8:30pm &Friday 8am-4pm July to August 8am to 4pmSalary: Social Worker - MSW - $55,000 to $62,000
Social Worker - LMSW - $58,000 to $69,227Major Duties:
  • Provide counseling, assessment, case management, academic planning, and attendance outreach for up to 40 or more students. Provide Post-secondary support to our YABC students, such as college and or career planning
  • Develop group workshops that support and enhance students’ skill development and help build on youth competencies and reachable goals.
  • Perform family interventions to support family engagement and participation in the school community and the lives of their youth.
  • Develop and maintain a resource directory for student referrals
  • Refer youth and families to appropriate resources both within the Good Shepherd Program Network and other community organizations as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with GSS team and school, develop special in-school activities and events.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Coordinate with other Good Shepherd Services team members and maintain a collaborative relationship with DOE staff.
  • Generate data required for statistical reporting and ensure that appropriate paperwork/database entry is completed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • MSW Required.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in working with youth and families required.
  • Prior experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Ability to implement best practices to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
