
Utility Worker

- Under the direction of a supervisor, or qualified employee, constructs, installs, and maintains gas distribution pipelines and associated equipment
- Operates equipment related to gas line installation and maintenance, including backhoe, dump truck, pavement breakers and other equipment
- Works with gas customers to resolve gas-related concerns. Responds to emergency calls, including gas leaks, fires, broken gas lines, and evacuations
- Locates gas lines, completes customer turn-on and turn-off orders, and adjusts new and existing gas appliances for customers to ensure safe, effective and efficient gas usage
- Accurately completes job-related paperwork and maintains accurate records and reports
- Participates in process improvements and effectively solves problems as a team
- Obtain your CDL within the first six months of employment
- 0-1 year of directly related experience which may include construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other similar fields along with a High school diploma/GED
- A valid driver’s license that will be verified upon hire
- Interface effectively with customers and other company personnel while being able to comprehend and apply basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide
- Smell and detect burning materials, natural gas, hazardous substances such as solvents and toxic substances found in hazardous wastes
- After accepting this role, but prior to hire, the successful applicant will be required to successfully pass physical skills assessment, company and DOT drug test, and DOT medical evaluation.
- An excellent written and verbal communicator who can read and understand basic maps
- Knowledgeable with basic tools and materials that are used for repairs, maintenance and construction
- Cold 51-75%, Heat 51-75%, Radiation 51-75%, Fumes 76-100%, Outdoors 76-100%, Travel 76- 100%, Office Work Environment Up to 25%
- This position may require work on-call, rotating shifts, overtime and work on weekends and holidays, work in extreme cold or hot temperatures on uneven or slippery surfaces. Occasional out-of-town work and overnight may be required
- Some areas involve alternative work schedules including flexible 9 or 4/10 hour day work week.
- Involves work around live gas. Exposure to non-ionizing radiation from welding, flashes and sunburn
