Services are available to more than 196,000 veterans living in a 53-county area of western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and northwest ArkansasPOSITION DESCRIPTIONGeneral duties for X-Ray Tech: Responsibilities/Duties/KSAsThe X-Ray Technologist has the knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizes unusual images and determines proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest. Performs radiographic examinations of the skull torso and extremities for routine physical examinations, and for diagnosis of illness or injuries to accident victims.
  • Check system for operation and assess acceptable performance based on established guidelines. Demonstrate knowledge of calibration parameters and the ability to make adjustments as needed.
  • Performs radiographic exams at the bedside and in the operating rooms providing diagnostic x-rays to the surgeons and professional staff on patients that are unable to be x-rayed in the Radiology Service due to incapacity or surgical procedures, using portable x-ray units and mobile fluoroscopic units to achieve these exams. Upon request, operates the fluoroscopic unit in the cysto suite.
  • Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patient, staff and self. This is achieved by the use of lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lined walls and collimation. The technicians, to assure compliance with radiation safety regulations, wear film badges.
  • Be aware of and practice the safety policies/procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
  • Properly identifies the patient and the image. Uses left and right markers. This is essential so that mistaken identity does not occur. The technician must be certain that the patient ID band and the request are identical.
  • Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible. May be required by procedure or patient's condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Requires knowledge of image acquisition in Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
  • Shifts will vary. Call is required
Job RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree or Certificate in a diagnostic radiologic technology program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R) required
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Must be familiar with portable X-Ray machines and C-Arms.
  • Must possess knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy, recognizes unusual images, and determining proper positioning to best demonstrate areas of interest
  • Must possess current BLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with MS Office products
  • Ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
*** Shift coverage will vary and on-call may be requiredTOTAL COMPENSATION:
  • $45.00 Hourly - 5-day work week
  • Additional $4.41 Hourly (up to 40 hours per week) to Supplement Health Insurance Premiums and/or 401a retirement account
