- Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections.
- Must possess six (6) years of professional correctional classification experience. Up to two years of professional correctional classification experience can be substituted on a year for year basis by either of the following: college education from an accredited institution (one year is equal to 30 semester or 45 quarter hours) or correctional officer experience at the sergeant level or above.
- Currently Serving as Senior Classification Officer(2 years minimum).
- As supervisor, this position communicates with, motivates, provides or coordinates training, evaluates employee’s work, plans and directs the employee’s work, and has authority to hire or recommend the hire, transfer or discipline of subordinate employees.
- Supervision and management of Classification Departments and supervises reception process if applicable.
- Reviews the work of subordinate classification staff and clerical employees and advises subordinates on departmental rules and procedures.
- Conducts monthly audits of selects classification staff to ensure adherence with Department of Corrections’ procedures. Supervises the implementation of procedures established by the Department.
- Serves as a member of the Institutional Classification Committee (ICC). Establishes ICC dockets.
- Answers correspondence from inmates’ families or interested parties.
- Ensures the A.C.A. classification standards are met. Develops plan of action of any deficiencies.

- Knowledge of inmate classification functions and procedures.
- Knowledge of techniques for advising, interviewing, and counseling inmates.
- Knowledge of the department offender database.
