Charleys Kids is a non-profit organization that aims to make an educational difference in
the lives of under-resourced children. We primarily seek to strengthen our communities
with education through our main program Children’s Tutoring Initiative.About Children’s Tutoring Initiative
The Children’s Tutoring Initiative (CTI) is an in-school literacy tutoring program designed to
support elementary students who are reading below grade level. We partner with schools
and community organizations to connect trained volunteer tutors with students, ensuring
every child gains the reading skills needed for long-term success.Position Overview
The Talent and Program Development Specialist advances the growth of the tutor network
and the expansion of CTI by combining people-focused recruitment with strategic program
development. This role recruits, onboards, and engages volunteer tutors; fosters
partnerships with local leaders and organizations; and collaborates with the CTI team to
design initiatives that increase student reach and improve literacy outcomes. Through
relationship-building and innovative program strategies, the Specialist strengthens
community connections and helps ensure all children have the resources needed to
succeed.Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment and Outreach
- Identify and engage potential volunteer tutors through community events, local
- Represent CTI at public events, community forums, and outreach opportunities.
- Organize and host small informational sessions and presentations to generate
- Guide new tutor candidates through the application and onboarding process.
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with community members, potential
- Serve as a positive, informed advocate for CTI's mission, sharing success stories
Development
- Identify opportunities to expand CTI’s reach within schools and community
- Build strategic partnerships with businesses, universities, community and civic
- Research and recommend innovative literacy support practices that can be
- Support CTI’s community presence by providing community impact data, success
- Work with the CTI team to create sustainable systems for tutor retention and longterm community involvement.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach efforts, contacts made, and tutoring leads.
- Provide weekly updates on progress and engagement strategies.
- Collaborate with CTI staff to ensure timely follow-up and communication with
- Familiarity with Columbus-area communities and networks
- Self-starter with ability to work independently and manage flexible hours
- Passion for education, literacy, and community development
- Excellent communicator that is comfortable speaking to small groups and
- Prior experience in volunteer recruitment, outreach, education, or community
