- Manage and grow the North American R&D market, including national laboratories, universities, basic research institutions, accelerators, space research, and quantum computing.
- Efficiently and profitably manage a customer base of up to 2,000 accounts.
- Identify, develop, and implement strategies to expand Leybold's presence in the R&D sector.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including researchers, procurement officials, and decision-makers.
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, product management, marketing, engineering) to tailor solutions to R&D customer needs.
- Monitor market trends, funding opportunities, and emerging research to identify new business prospects.
- Analyze competitors, customer needs, and regulatory changes to inform strategic direction.
- Engage early in project lifecycles to build a strong pipeline with researchers and lab planners.
- Deliver technical and commercial presentations to educate and influence potential clients.
- Represent Leybold at academic conferences, trade shows, and technical forums.
- Support internal teams with quotations, proposals, and tender submissions.
- Gather and analyze customer feedback and application data to recommend product improvements.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, opportunities, and forecasts in the CRM system.
- Initiate and support targeted marketing activities for selected markets and applications.
- Monitor market pricing and provide pricing guidance to the sales organization.
- Meet revenue targets and achieve key business objectives.
- A bachelor's degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
- Alternatively, at least 5 years of experience in technical product marketing, technical sales, or product management support will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years in business development, technical sales, or account management.
- Experience in scientific instrumentation or vacuum technology is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of the research ecosystem, including grant processes, facility planning, and procurement cycles.
- Existing relationships with national labs, universities, or research consortia are a strong plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage long sales cycles and build trust in complex, technical environments.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, UHV technology, or related scientific equipment.
- Passion for science and innovation, with a strong customer-focused mindset.
- Self-motivated with excellent organizational and strategic thinking skills.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Willingness to travel as needed (up to 50%).
