The Safety & Security Associate, or “SSA” for short, is the first point of contact for all persons entering a First Baptist Church of Glenarden facility. The SSA maintains the security and safety of all FBCG locations by checking in and checking out all employees, members, vendors, and visitors entering our facilities. The primary purpose of the Safety & Security Associate is to maintain the safety and security of staff members and guests at any FBCG facility.The main responsibilities of the Safety & Security Associate are:

A Safety & Security Associate serves as the frontline representative of security at all First Baptist Church of Glenarden facilities. This position provides a welcoming and safe environment for guests, volunteers, and staff members. The Safety & Security Associate plays a crucial role while delivering exceptional customer service.Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manages the main point of entry into the building by ensuring policy is followed on how employees, volunteers, vendors, contractors, visitors, and members enter and exit the building.
  • Greets staff members and guests in a warm and welcoming manner.
  • Ensures that visitors, guests, contractors, and vendors are escorted upon their arrival.
  • Ensures that staff members and guests are signing in and out properly as the policy states.
  • Ensures the front desk is neat, presentable, and equipped with all the necessary supplies.
  • Uses security systems, such as state-of-the-art cameras, to monitor the premises for any suspicious activities or safety hazards and promptly reports and responds to incidents.
  • Coordinates with the Events Department for package deliveries.
  • Maintains logbooks, as needed, for all observed deliveries, visitors, contractors, keys, elevators, incident reports, daily activities, etc…
  • Responds to any alarms of the building to include fire, intruder, HVAC, water, etc…
  • Enforces building policies and procedures.
  • Calls emergency personnel, such as Police or Fire departments in case of an emergency. (Fire Safety Liaison)
  • Helps in the evacuation of a building during an emergency.
  • Contacts the building superintendent or maintenance department if the need for a building repair should arise.
  • Reports any building malfunctions to management. (ie: light bulb out, broken floor tile, leaks, etc…)
  • Challenge suspicious individuals and inform the authorities of suspicious incidents.
  • When necessary, escorts visitors to different locations throughout the building.
  • Acts as a deterrent to building violators.
  • Helps staff and visitors with packages or elevator operation.
  • Answers phones professionally and assists callers with directions or instructions for the building.
  • Helps create and maintain building identification and/or parking pass systems.
  • Announces deliveries to staff, such as food or packages.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all communication.
  • Conducts regular patrols of designated areas to maintain a visible security presence and detects any potential security breaches or safety concerns.
  • Acts as a first responder during emergencies, such as medical incidents or fire alarms, by initiating appropriate emergency procedures, coordinating with emergency services, and guiding individuals to safety.
  • Documents and reports any security incidents, accidents, or violations in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintains effective communication with other security personnel, management, and relevant stakeholders to exchange information, relay important updates, and collaborate on security-related matters.
  • Identifies and assesses potential security risks or vulnerabilities, recommends and implements preventive measures to mitigate risks, and ensures compliance with security policies and procedures.
  • Participates in ongoing training programs to enhance knowledge of security protocols, emergency procedures, and relevant regulations, and promotes security awareness among staff and occupants.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be saved, have a servant’s heart, and be a member, in good standing or willing to become a member in good standing of FBCG.
  • Must be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor.
  • Must possess a gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations.
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation for the ministry and the mission of FBCG.
  • Previous experience in physical security is a must.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals calmly and professionally with the spirit and heart of the FBCG ministry.
  • Excellent observation and problem-solving abilities to quickly identify and respond to security concerns.
  • Knowledge of security systems, access control procedures, and emergency response protocols is a plus.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods is a must.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to handle stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and the ability to operate security equipment and systems effectively.
  • Basic computer skills are required; experience with databases and email is preferred.
  • Knowledge of MS Outlook.
  • Strong customer service and people skills
  • Proficient organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Uniform is required, to be issued by FBCG.
  • Problem-solving and Multi-tasking skills are required.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of physical security or related experience is required.
  • Training or certification in security is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be willing and able to physically defend visitors, volunteers, staff members, and/or FBCG property from harm, mistreatment, vandalism, theft or other harmful acts.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • CPR Certification required and must be able to deliver 5 rounds of chest compressions and rescue breaths continuously when necessary. (Training will be provided).
