This position is responsible for performing journey level painter duties and tasks in the painting, decorating, refinishing, and repairing of building interior and exterior walls and other structures, equipment, and furnishings. In addition, applies paint, shellac, varnish, enamel, stain, or other protectives to prepared surfaces, using brush, spray, cloth, or other means, as well as assigns and reviews work of lower-level staff including seasonal/temporary workers, provides guidance and training to assigned staff. If you are looking for an opportunity to develop and master your craft in the painting trade, we invite all qualified candidates to apply!POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSUnder general supervision of the Facility Supervisor or Manager in the Chicago & Northern Regional area, serves as painter foreman, directing painters, and/or lower-level staff including seasonal/temporary workers in paints, decorating and refinishing duties.As assigned by the supervisor, serves as foreman, directing painters and/or lower-level staff including seasonal/temporary workers in painting, decorating, and refinishing duties including the preparation of interior or exterior surfaces, using brushes, spray, cloth, or other means of application.Inspects work sites to determine amount and type of materials needed for painting projects.Prepares interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting.Serves as a working supervisor.Performs shop work at facilities.Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and four years of full-time journey level painter experience; or eight years of full-time journey level painter experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prefers working knowledge of using the tools, material, methods, and standard practices of the trade.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience using the tools of the trade such as paint brushes, paint rollers, paint sprayers, paint pans, razor scraper, putty knife, power sanders, buffers, power washer, scaffolding, etc.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience making simple mathematical computations in estimating area of surfaces to be painted.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience developing plans for large projects and make time, equipment, and material, estimates.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience blending paints and matching colors.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience instructing and directing skilled and unskilled workers.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience interpreting work from verbal or written specifications.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience coordinating work orders and job assignments with vendors, and other trade foreman or agency managers.
  • Prefers four (4) years of professional experience maintaining records related to the work.
  • Prefers working knowledge of reading and interpreting blueprints, floor plans, simple sketches, and drawings.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires ability to work from heights (on ladders, scaffold, and platforms), stand for long periods, move heavy equipment, materials, structures, and furniture up to 50lbs. independently, and up to 75-100lbs. with assistance.
  • Requires the ability to use agency materials/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
