SummaryAbout the Role:Under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Director, Assistant Director, and Education Manager, the Lead Teacher is responsible for the delivery of a high-quality educational experience for the children and families under his/her care, including meeting educational, safety, hygiene, nutrition, and nurturing needs of the children and utilizing the appropriate treatment and discipline procedures outlined in the personnel policy manual.· Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
· Maintain compliance with all Department of Early Care & Learning, Quality Rated, and NAEYC rules and regulations.DutiesPrepare and implement the curriculum: Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum
  • Utilizes the curriculum goals and objectives to develop lesson plans to support the early learning standards, including a wide variety of educational experiences in Language/Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, The Arts (Music, Art, and Drama), Social and Emotional, and Physical Development per Georgia Early Learning Development Standards (GELDS).
  • Arranges the learning environment to support learning content areas per the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS) criteria.
  • Utilizes planning time to develop lesson plans and other tasks to support the overall program goals.
  • Works with Education Manager to ensure adequate materials, supplies, and equipment are available in classrooms.
Provide meaningful instruction and age-appropriate experiences for children
  • Plans and implements activities that promote the acquisition of number concepts.
  • Plans and implements experiences that promote language and literacy development.
  • Creates activities that relate to the weekly theme and extend the knowledge and interest of each student and their families.
  • Plans and prepares activities ahead of time. Provides adequate supervision as defined by Bright from the Start (BFTS), Quality Rated, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
  • Implements family-style meal experiences, sitting down and eating with children and engaging them in conversation.
  • Facilitates and encourages to be independent in decision-making and self-care routines (dressing and toileting).
  • Uses positive redirection to address inappropriate behaviors.
  • Works cooperatively in a flexible, teamwork approach with other staff, volunteers, and families.
  • Displays an understanding of state licensing regulations.
  • Displays an understanding of NAEYC standards.
  • Displays an understanding of Quality Rated guidelines.
Prepare and execute assessments for children
  • Assess and maintain records of children’s needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis using provided assessment tools (Brigance and Teaching Strategies Gold).
  • Assure all children’s assessments are completed according to the Atlanta Children’s Shelter timeline for evaluation and that data is used for planning (Brigance and Teaching Strategies Gold).
  • Uses the result of the assessments to plan activities for children based on their developmental level.
  • Provides updates regarding each student’s development during parent/teacher conferences a minimum of at least two times per year, and any additional conferences, as requested.
  • Provide daily feedback as requested by ECE Director, ECE Assistant Director, and Education Manager.
Maintain positive communication and contribute positively to work culture.· Develop individual relationships with children by providing care that is responsive, attentive, consistent, comforting, supportive, and culturally sensitive.
· Creates an environment that discourages challenging or disruptive behaviors through classroom strategies/designs, effective transitions, and engaging behaviors.
· Establishes and maintains positive and productive relationships with families.
· Provide and promote verbal/written communication to parents daily regarding child’s activities by using Tadpoles.
· Share with other ECE staff classroom housekeeping and rotational responsibilities including nap/rest supervision.
· Attends scheduled/required meetings and professional learning sessions, including but not limited to earning 18 hours of BFTS approved training annually (not including CPR and First Aid training).
· Provide and promote verbal/written communication to parents daily regarding child’s activities by using Tadpoles.
· Manages assistant teacher in daily supervision of children, ensuring proper training and guidance.
· Maintains a commitment of professionalism.Additional duties and responsibilities· Performs other duties as assigned by ECE Director, ECE Assistant Director, and Education Manager.
· Ability to maintain regular, punctual consistent attendance.
· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to talk, listen, and speak clearly on the telephone.RequirementsEducation
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external clients.
· Computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
· Must possess a CDA, AA degree in Early Childhood Education or higher credential (BA or BS or MA or MS in Early Childhood Education or closely related field preferred)Experience
· Have at least 2 years of experience working with children younger than five years old in a state-licensed childcare facility.
· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
· Experience with best practices outlined by the Georgia Department of Early Care & Learning
· Familiarity with NAEYC and/or Quality Rated preferred.Nice To Haves· Self-starter with strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
