- Conduct activities related to the development the Regents Examinations in science and other science assessments as assigned, including convening and facilitating review committees, participating in committee work and scoring sessions to provide content expertise in development of State exams while reviewing and revising test questions, and working with stakeholder groups;
- Collaborate with NYS educators and participate as needed in science test development activities, including training, assigning, and reviewing the work of teacher-consultants to perform a wide range of test development tasks;
- Manage the work of NYS educators supporting the development of the Regents Examinations in science and other science assessments as assigned;
- Prepare and review examinations, rubrics and supplementary test materials and monitoring their progress through the various phases of development, including translations and printing;
- Collaborate with other NYSED offices to support the implementation of the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSP12SLS) and the development of materials for new assessments aligned to these standards; and
- Create guidance and supplemental materials for the field and representing NYSED at meetings and on projects related to the NYS assessments.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
- Master's degree AND New York State permanent or professional certification in Biology 7-12, Earth Science 7-12, Chemistry 7-12 or Physics 7-12, AND two years of full-time classroom teaching experience in that subject area and corresponding grade levels.
