Together, we create our culture by living our values in our day-to-day interactions with our patients and teammates.Job SummaryUnder the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Sitter provides continuous observation and monitoring of patients who require enhanced safety measures due to medical or behavioral conditions. The Patient Sitter ensures patient safety by remaining within arm's reach or line-of-sight of the patient at all times, responding quickly to patient needs, and communicating significant changes in patient behavior or condition to nursing staff. Responsibilities include non-clinical support duties, emotional reassurance to patients, and assistance with maintaining a clean and safe environment.Essential Functions
Maintain constant visual observation of assigned patient; never leave the patient alone or out of sight
Alert nursing staff promptly when patient requires assistance or shows changes in condition
Provide emotional support and companionship to patients
Accompany patients off unit for tests or procedures, remaining in close proximity
Report any hazards or safety concerns to the nurse and help maintain a neat, orderly patient room
Record patient behavior and significant events as directed
Adhere to infection control and isolation procedures in accordance with facility policies
Follow RN directions regarding observation protocols, documentation, and response to patient behaviors
Perform basic support tasks including helping set up meal trays, removing trash, and assisting with linens
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times
Complete mandatory education and training requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
Must read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Must have critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment
Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations and respond appropriately
Familiarity with and proper use of translation services (e.g., Language Line) when needed
Regular and punctual attendance is required
Must be able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
QualificationsEducation
High school diploma or equivalent required
Licenses/Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
De-escalation training required within time frame required by facility policy
Experience
Previous healthcare or patient care experience preferred
