Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and orderly work environment, ensuring product quality, and supporting organizational goals and objectives.Mission/ObjectivesThe Distillery Supervisor will manage the staff to ensure all aspects of the distillation process are completed to produce a quality product accurate while driving continuous improvement in the operation.Key Responsibilities and ActivitiesOversees all aspects of the production of raw distillate through each stage of the process: raw material scheduling & receipt, milling, cooking, fermentation, and distillation.Manages the production of distillery byproducts through each stage of the process: stillage receipt and storage, wet cake & syrup production, distillers dried grain (DDG) production, and byproduct loadingProvides supervisory oversight and support to the boiler and utilities departmentTrains operators to a proficient level, monitors their performance, and continually fosters their ongoing development creating and updating SOPs and work instructions as well as advances ISO initiatives and the continued refinement of standard implementation.Coordinates staffing for planned and unforeseen coverage needs. Conducts call-ins of maintenance personnel and contractors and directs repair projects on his / her shift.Sources and orders repair parts, equipment and submits work requests to the maintenance department.Contacts suppliers and modifies delivery schedules of raw materials as needed per the production plan and current inventories.Determines and communicates the implications of the process disruptions to the other effected departments and managers.Revises production plans when disruptions in the process arise such as restoring the automated distillery control system, drives, and devices after unforeseen outages or emergency shut downs and will accordingly adjust processing procedures and time-sequenced steps.Tracks operator work hours and coordinates payroll for the entire department.Collects and manages operational data for SAP tracking, KPIs, inventory control, budgetary purposes, and governmental compliance.Collects and interprets historic data from the distillery control system for continual process improvement.Participates in team project initiatives that require the application of various technical disciplines.Additional responsibilities as assignedShall implement continuous improvement actions to close gaps of KPI's or increase productivity as needed. Lead and/or participate in Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) to solve problems by attempting to identify and correct the root causes of events, as opposed to simply addressing their symptoms.Communicate and address any deficiencies that affect Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)Maintain compliance with all GMP, ISO and food safety standards related to the warehouse department.Work with appropriate internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and/or to resolve risks when identified.Supervise a team of hourly employees in a way that complies with Union contract ways of working while engaging the team in department accountabilities and a continuous improvement mindset.Ensure all employees are following prescribed PPE safety requirements for their assigned work area.Consistently promote a safe working environment. This includes keeping all materials, supplies, tools and any other production related items in their place. Implement and sustain 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain).Immediately report and properly document any safety items related to you or any departmental employees.
