
Senior Industrial Design Engineer, North American Sortation Center Engineering

- Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the sortation and transportation network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects
- Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.A day in the life
1. End to end ownership of automation pilots.
2. Design pilot test plans, success criteria, and SOPs. Coordinate installation, commissioning, and performance monitoring of new automation solutions.
3. Interface with 3P vendors for hardware development, integration, and field support.
4. Partner with Ops, RME, WHS, and Business Corp teams to align pilot execution and scale readiness.
5. Collaborate with Legal and BD to ensure contracts protect Amazon's IP interests.
6. Participate in DFMEA reviews and safety risk mitigation planning.
7. Build scaling strategy for the automation products based on the performance results.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (any discipline), Operations, or a related field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty.
- Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
- Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.
- Experience in Capital project management
- Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
- Experience must involve ownership/management of engineering design projects
- Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD softwarePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Master's degree in Engineering (any discipline)

The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market.
