Above all, we believe that collaboration is the best way forward.HDR is seeking a Project Manager-Solid Waste with experience managing and performing technical work on solid waste and recycling projects in the greater NY, NJ, or NE area to join our nationally ranked team of professionals. This position will be based in any NY/NJ HDR office, including White Plains, Syracuse, Manhattan, or Woodcliff Lake, or any of our New England offices, preferably Rocky Hill, CT, or Boston, MA. Travel to other Northeast offices and clients will be necessary, and flexible time in the office and/or work from home arrangements will be considered.This position will serve to support the solid waste program in the NY/NJ and NE areas in all aspects of facility design and technical engineering and regulatory compliance; project management; leading pursuits and proposals; marketing; and managing existing and new client relationships. Work is primarily focused on solid waste facilities design and operations, planning, feasibility studies, cost estimating, capital improvement support, and operational monitoring and support at all types of solid waste facilities including Waste-to-Energy (WTE), Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs), landfills, transfer stations, and organics processing facilities (compost/AD).Primary ResponsibilitiesThe primary duties of the Project Manager Solid Waste are as follows:Function as a project manager or technical lead on small to large solid waste projects.
  • May be involved with the production and coordination of several projects concurrently.
  • Establish client relations and work closely on marketing, client development, contractual, design and production activities.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload allocations throughout the project development phases.
  • Complete deliverables and milestones on schedule.
  • Work closely with Business/Accounting Manager, Project Controller or Company Controller and the Department Manager or Managing Principal for project reviews.
  • Comply with and implement company QA/QC procedures.
  • Provide contract management support to senior PMs.
Additional responsibilities:
  • Supervises project staff and acts as mentor for less experienced solid waste technical staff and Project Managers.
  • Work with Section Manager and waste client development leads to prioritize marketing targets.
  • Develop marketing strategies and proposals for new and existing solid waste clients.
  • Planning, directing and monitoring all aspects of solid waste engineering projects such as solid waste facilities, transfer stations, landfill and planning studies.
*LI-MP1QualificationsRequired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field
  • PE is required.
  • 7 years related experience in Solid Waste which should include landfill, transfer stations, MRF’s, planning services, permitting
  • A minimum of 2 years project management experience
  • Must have the ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Good communication, leadership, and planning skills required.
  • Microsoft Office experience required.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • Must be open to occasional travel including limited field work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidates residing in downstate, central, and upstate NY are preferred.
  • Experience with NY/NJ and/or NE state solid waste and recycling regulations required.
  • Experience managing large ($500,000+) fee projects is a plus.
  • Experience managing projects for large governmental agencies is a plus.
  • Experience with solid waste master planning, zero waste planning, and implementation of waste diversion programs is a plus.
  • Experience with organics management and organics facility design is a plus.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients higher preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
