Our top-tier benefits and great retirement packages can help you build a rewarding career and lasting future with the State of Illinois.Position OverviewUnder direction of the unit manager, the criminal justice specialist I performs complex technical functions in gathering and maintaining specialized professional and confidential information for the Department and assists in the developing of information for Department heads for planning and evaluation of programs including assisting in the development of planning options and proposals for the Budget Preview, conducting impact analysis, gather and provides information to assist with grants. This position will assist in gathering, developing, and presenting specialized professional and confidential information and advice to Department heads, assist in providing information and data relevant to comprehensive planning, staffing, and evaluation of programs, specifically in the areas of population and capacity management. Will collect, produce, analyze and reconcile reports for the division and maintain confidential data. Will assist in researching legislation, policies and programs of other States' and cataloging 'best practices'. - Gathers and maintains specialized professional and confidential information for the Department and assists in the developing of information for Department heads for planning and evaluation of programs.
- Assists in conducting impact analysis of proposed legislation.
- Researches legislation, policies, and programs of other States’ and cataloging 'best practices.'
- Gathers and provides information to assist in writing, obtaining and managing grants relevant to the operation of programs within the Department.
- Assists in the development of components for the Department of Corrections' planning options and proposals for the Budget Preview.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in law, criminal justice, government, public administration, sociology, accounting, or political science.
- Requires completion of an agency approved training program OR one (1) year of professional experience in planning, development, implementation or assessment of programs in criminal justice, government, public administration, sociology, accounting, political science or equivalent advanced academic work.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience working in the administration of criminal justice systems.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with statistical software and other database maintenance tools.
- Prefers training and coursework in criminal justice topics within the social sciences including subjects related to the criminal justice system, law enforcement, juvenile justice issues, social justice, and rehabilitation.
- Prefers at least one (1) year of experience writing summary reviews, analytical reports, and observational assessments.
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
