Minimum Qualifications
Valid nursing license (RN).
2 years of nursing experience (RN) as follows:
1-year verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients through employment by a Home Health Agency.
AND 1 year-verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting. Must have ONE of the following:
o [Verifiable] completion of a course in teaching adults; ORo Completion of a 24-hour course in “Planning, Implementing and Evaluating Educational Programs in Nursing” satisfies this requirement.o Completion of a course approved by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or by an accredited educational institution satisfies this requirement.o A BRN continuing education course certificate used to meet this requirement must comply with the requirements found in 16 CCR, §§1450 et seq.o [Verifiable] experience in teaching adults; ORo [Verifiable experience] supervising nurse aides.NOTE: To be approved as an instructor, the RN faculty for the Nurse Assistant and Home Health Aide training program must first receive instructor approval from the CDPH. The final job offer is contingent upon CDPH approval.Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a valid, current license as a registered nurse in addition to requirements set by CDPH.
Uphold professional and ethical academic standards.
Provide class instruction in accordance with established course outlines of record.
Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and student records and submit them in accordance with established deadlines.
Teach students with diverse academic backgrounds.
Participate actively in staff development and professional growth.
Desired Qualifications
Three or more years teaching at the community college and/or university level.
Experience teaching nurse assistant and home health aide courses.
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Experience with problem- and project-based learning and the implementation of new instructional methodologies to enhance student success.
Experience with and sensitivity to the learning needs of students who are under-represented in health science academic programs and careers.
Commitment to integrate current and emerging instructional technologies to enhance student success.
A strong commitment to active participation in department-level activities.
Experience in curriculum and program development and grant writing.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience with Student Learning Outcome assessments
A strong commitment to professional growth and development.
Ability to work as a member of a team with faculty, laboratory staff, and student workers.
COMPENSATIONThe salary schedule for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, plus an office hour differential of $20.32 per hour for classroom assignments.
