Job Description:Position Title: Pipe WelderLocation of Position: United States -- Wisconsin -- Sturgeon BayBusiness Group: Fincantieri Bay ShipbuildingDepartment: Pipe WeldPosition Type: Full-Time; Permanent; Non-ExemptReports To: ForemanPosition Summary: This position is responsible for pipe welding equipment, parts, interiors and exteriors of ships, and shipyard buildings at our vast, 63-acre facility.Detailed Description:
  • Follows directions under intermittent supervision.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using TIG, GMAW, FCAW and/or MIG.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Use fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
  • Gouge metals, using the air-arc gouging process.
  • Diagnose and solve problems of all kinds.
  • Troubleshoot problems with all equipment as it arises.
  • Proper storage of equipment.
  • Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Be able to pass ABS test in FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding)
  • Must be able to pass an ABS 6G open root and/or backing ring TIG on carbon and/or stainless steels
  • A self-starter who can work with minimal supervision on an 8 for 8 basis
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
Desired Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience preferred
  • Prior shipyard experience a plus
  • Bilingual language skills (oral & written) a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction / repair
