Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing from an accredited institution. Registered Nurse (RN) License in New York State. Two (2) years of full-time nursing experience in a clinical or ambulatory healthcare setting. Experience with phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, and laboratory oversight, ensuring compliance with CLIA and OSHA standards. Experience with infection control protocols, patient safety, and emergency response procedures.Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) or more years of experience in a nurse leadership role. Experience in an outpatient setting. Experience working with the college population. Experience working with diverse populations. Supervisory experience.Brief Description of Duties:
The Manager of Nursing & Clinical Operations plays a pivotal role in both supervisory and clinical functions within Student Health Services (SHS), ensuring the seamless daily operations of the college health clinic. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Health Services, this position oversees registered nurses, medical assistants, and laboratory staff, including phlebotomy services. Provides leadership in patient care, workflow coordination, and quality of care.This incumbent will supervise and coordinate nursing staff, ensuring an effective triage system that prioritizes patient needs and facilitates smooth clinic operations. They will manage clinical support staff in relation to provider schedules, to optimize workflow, and implement strategies and technologies to improve patient care. Additionally, they will develop and oversee training programs, particularly for point-of-care testing, and ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, and infection control protocols. Additionally, is responsible for laboratory staffing, student schedules, and inventory management, ensuring that all clinical functions are adequately supported. They will approve payroll for medical assistants, nurses, and laboratory staff, oversee electronic medical records (EMR) management, and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of patient care. In collaboration with the front desk team, they will ensure proper triage and appointment scheduling by the scope of services provided at SHS.The Manager of Nursing & Clinical Operations is critical in overseeing and providing high-quality clinical care within Student Health Services (SHS). They lead the triage process, ensuring that patient concerns and emergencies are promptly assessed and addressed while supervising sterilization procedures and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. As the Infection Control Program Coordinator, they instruct staff on best practices in infection prevention, conduct surveillance and investigations of public health concerns, and collaborate with the Department of Health on disease prevention strategies, including influenza and other public health initiatives. In partnership with physicians, they facilitate comprehensive nursing care, ensuring that clinical operations run smoothly and efficiently. Beyond direct patient care, the manager plays a key role in the recruitment, training, and ongoing professional development of nursing staff while fostering collaboration across Student Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services. They also oversee referrals, lab follow-ups, and patient communications to ensure continuity of care. Their expertise in workflow optimization, triage coordination, and training development will be essential in ensuring a high standard of care within the Student Health Services.The incumbent plays a crucial role as a team member within Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services. In this capacity, they collaborate with other team members to collectively contribute to the overall functioning and effectiveness of the services provided. This involves actively participating in team meetings, sharing insights, and engaging in collaborative decision-making processes. The incumbent's role extends to fostering a cooperative and supportive atmosphere, ensuring seamless teamwork, and collectively working towards the common goals and objectives of Student Health, Wellness & Prevention Services.Clinical Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and participate in the triage process for patient concerns and emergencies, ensuring timely assessment and intervention.
  • Supervise staff responsible for sterilization procedures to maintain infection control standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care within Student Health Services.
  • Serve as the Infection Control Program Coordinator, instructing staff on infection prevention and control measures.
  • Monitor and assess influenza prevention programs and other disease prevention strategies within the student population.
  • Coordinate and implement point-of-care testing protocols to ensure best practices in patient diagnostics.
  • Provide direct care to students when the staffing schedule requires assistance.
  • Ensure staff maintain compliance with clinical standards, infection control procedures, and patient safety protocols.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the nursing service is adequately staffed, adjusting coverage as needed to accommodate fluctuations in patient demand.
  • Collaborate on the recruitment, hiring, and retention of nursing and clinical support staff.
  • Manage and approve payroll for nurses, medical assistants, and laboratory staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including AAAHC accreditation, OSHA, CLIA, and NYSDOH guidelines.
  • Encourage collaboration across Student Health, Wellness, and Prevention Services to enhance multidisciplinary care.
  • Maintain BCLS and participate in mock codes.
  • Collaborate with health education through the Center for Prevention and Outreach to coordinate PODS, health education outreach.
  • Assist the assistant director with equipment and DME inventory management and functionality.
  • Ensure that patient care delivery considers the diverse backgrounds, needs, and behaviors of the student population.
Professional Development & Committee Involvement:
  • Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.Salary: $115,000-$122,000 + $4,000 Location Pay = $119,000-$126,000 Total Compensation
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
