About the role:The Nurse Manager of Dialysis assumes 24-hour accountability and responsibility for excellence in the clinical and operational practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care on the ANCC Magnet® designated unit/practice area of Dialysis within ChristianaCare.
  • Assures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Identifies priorities of leadership and management responsibilities and demonstrates the ability to delegate.
  • Enables a relationship-based care approach to care delivery on assigned unit.
  • Performs routine leader rounds on patients and caregivers on assigned unit/practice area to establish visibility, teamwork, and monitoring the level of care/practice.
  • Remains cognizant of risk management issues and takes appropriate measures to address. Supports and communicates department and unit/practice area-based quality and safety initiatives.
  • Manages nursing practice and care delivery in designated unit/practice area.
  • Promotes the autonomy of the nursing staff, encouraging independent decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Supports and facilitates a culture of nursing professional governance on unit.
  • Formulates and effectively executes innovative leadership strategies to promote excellence.
  • Responsible for staffing and scheduling, allocating paid time off to meet staffing needs for unit/practice area census.
  • Maintains position control in a cost-effective manner. Interviews and hires potential employees, assuring the technical and professional development of staff.
  • Coaches, disciplines and evaluates staff according to ChristianaCare policy. Maintains accurate employee files, including licensure of professional staff.
  • Plans, holds and documents monthly staff meetings, communicating all appropriate information.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the unit/practice area budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for the Newark campus of ChristianaCare.
  • Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships among departments to ensure effective value and quality patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates and promotes positive interpersonal communication skills all the time.
  • Maintains a cooperative and collaborative working relationship with the unit/practice area-based Medical Director.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and students. Contact at various times with community agencies, companies, and other hospitals as well as the general public.The Nurse Manager supervises all levels of personnel on unit position control and this position reports directly to the Vice President, Patient Care ServicesEDUCATION:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Completed BSN and Master’s degree or alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree and Master of Science in Nursing Professional certification in a related nursing specialty required;
  • Nurse Executive certification preferred Five years of appropriate clinical and leadership experience; six months of dialysis experience.
