The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for a variety of tasks including performing audits of facilities and processes for compliance. This position will work in a food and feed manufacturing plant and warehouse.Responsibilities:
QA Technician II
  • Monitor production verification logs
  • Inspect incoming raw materials, check-in, and release.
  • Manage raw material COA’s
  • Perform Environmental monitoring, including sample prep and plating, log results
  • Pre-operational inspection of equipment prior to production
  • Perform daily monitoring of GMP compliance with daily floor walks. If needed, must complete and document a NCR with CAPA (food) and OOS (non-food) to ensure quality and food safety.
  • Verify the metal detector in the Food Processing Room
  • You have the empowerment to stop the line or place product on hold, if deemed inferior, a consumer threat, or out of specification.
  • Assist with training of new QA staff
  • Be comfortable working with some direction and some support
  • Fulfill other duties or responsibilities as required and/or assigned.
QA Technician III
  • Sampling of incoming raw materials, manage raw material COA’s
  • Assist with Supplier Approval and Ingredient Approval program
  • Perform trace-ability audits as assigned
  • Perform Environmental monitoring, log results and do trending
  • Participate in training employees in GMP's, HAACP/HARP-C food security, etc
  • Perform daily monitoring of GMP compliance with daily floor walks. If needed, must complete and document a NCR with CAPA (food) and OOS (non-food) to ensure quality and food safety.
  • You have the empowerment to stop the line or place product on hold, if deemed inferior, a consumer threat, or out of specification.
  • Investigate and assist in determining the root cause and corrective actions for customer complaints
  • Assist with closing out actions from internal and external audits and inspections
  • Training of new QA staff
  • Assist with food and feed audits, both customer and certification audit
  • Be comfortable working with some direction and little support
  • Fulfill other duties or responsibilities as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Food Safety Certification (food or feed) or Safe Serve Certification
  • Knowledge of EHS Standards
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to handle changing priorities within the workday
  • Ability to work independently or within a team
  • Proactive and creative problem solver with proven ability to multitask and manage deadlines
  • Collaborates with other departments to achieve goals
  • Approaches corrections and redirection of team members with a customer service attitude
Education, Training, Experience
  • QA II - 3-6 years in QA in food or feed manufacturing
  • QA III – 6+ years in QA in food or feed manufacturing
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification, Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bacteriology, Microbiology, or Food Science, preferred
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Majority of work is conducted in a laboratory environment and may include occasional exposure to cold temperatures
  • Work includes lifting (up to 30 lbs.) and frequent use of hands for handling objects, tools, and controls
  • May be exposed to airborne particles and chemicals used in fermentation production facilities
Safety Requirements:
  • Mandated use of company-issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Adherence to all company safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment
