Job Description: Machine operator & ToolmakerWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Operator & Toolmaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in operating a variety of manual shop equipment to produce high-quality custom wood and plastic components. This role requires a team player who is dedicated to maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient workspace.Key ResponsibilitiesFabrication and Machining:Manufacture custom wood and plastic components, tooling, jigs, and fixtures from blueprints or verbal instructions, ensuring all parts meet drawing specifications and tolerance requirements.Safely operate and maintain all shop equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, planers, jointers, sanders, and band saws.Precision and Quality Control:Perform in-process and final inspections of all parts using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, indicators, and height gauges to ensure quality standards are met.Team Collaboration and Shop Maintenance:Collaborate with the team to perform routine machine maintenance, organize and replace expendable tools, and keep the work area clean and orderly.Assist with machine overhauls and other fabrication needs as directed.QualificationsA minimum of three years of experience operating manual mills, drill presses, sanders, planers, and saws to produce custom products and fixtures.Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.Proficiency in using precision measuring tools for quality inspection.Knowledge of machine shop safety and standard shop practices.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.Knowledge of CNC machining and programming is a plus.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motions with hands and wrists.Capable of performing medium-level work, including occasionally lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Close visual acuity is required for machining and inspecting parts to fine tolerances.Must be able to manage multiple projects with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.Physical activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and hearing.
