- Join the Traffic Team, which is one of the Teams under the Government Design Division Leader, for the Midwest.
- Prepares and directs traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies. Also completes design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings.
- Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
- Works independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of projects such as technical studies, project design, preparation of specifications and technical plans. Must be able to coordinate responsibilities with the team and/or team leader.
- Reviews project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements, and related specifications.
- Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
- Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
- Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and tracks project progress.
- Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
- Advocates for and mentor entry level engineers.
- Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside his organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
- Plans and executes project meetings.
- Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
- Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
- Maintains professional and technical skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Assists and participates in preparation of business proposals.
- Attends staff meetings and works with Project Managers to balance workload of the team and staffing plans for projects.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Minimum of 10 years' professional experience within Traffic and/or Highway engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in State of Kansas or Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Other state licensing may be acceptable but will need to obtain licensure in other Midwest states as needed.
- Experience working with KDOT or MoDOT and other local transportation agencies.
- Experience with traffic and safety analysis. Knowledge of the MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual.
- Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra or VISSIM).
- Experience with design of traffic control elements such as plans, specifications and estimates for traffic signals, roadway signing, pavement markings, and work-zone maintenance of traffic plans, preferred.
- Thorough knowledge and experience with MicroStation CAD and MS Excel and Word (required), OpenRoads Designer (preferred).
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Experience in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline.

- Certified as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE), preferred.
