Job Description:The Risk Manager is responsible for managing risk mitigation and promoting a culture of safety at Sugar Bowl. This includes both Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and Royal Gorge Cross Country. This role interacts at all levels of the organization to assess, create, and implement near and longer-range business goals that support compliance, health, and safety in the workplace. The Risk Manager is also responsible for the development and implementation of safety policies, campaigns, and loss prevention programs.Why Sugar Bowl?Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California.   • Bachelor's degree in a related field strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Previous experience in ski industry required in risk mgmt. or risk related business segment
  • Risk Management Certification (CRM), preferred
  • Computer and technology proficient with risk or HRIS programs (UKG)
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills are paramount, ability to present in front of large groups with impact and influence
  • Must be willing and able to physically visit all operational locations, both on and off mountain, and potentially in extreme weather conditions.
  • Must have valid driver's license with minimal or no points within the last 3 years.
  • Must be a proficient skier or snowboarder.
What you will do
  • Learn and asses risk factors in all areas of the business
  • Support Managers in the development of safety programs, Job Safety Analysis and Department Manuals
  • Analyze business risks and determine methods by which they can be mitigated-develop effective reporting and communication methods appropriate for resort leadership, managers, and all staff.
  • Partner with insurance brokers as the site-administrator of all lines of insurance. Administer all insurance programs including certificates of insurance, renewals, audits, etc.
  • Design and implement safety trainings and programming
  • System and exceed all required state/federal regulations including CA/OSHA.
  • Act as the primary liaison with insurance companies with regard to filing and managing claims.
  • Administer all Workers' Compensation claims and employee injury reporting. Provide training to other staff on reporting and filing workers compensation claims.
  • Function as primary contact between all involved parties in incidents, including insurance representatives, outside counsel, senior management, guests, ski patrol, and brokers.
  • Advise and monitor compliance with CalOSHA, legislation/regulations.
  • Monitor all safety records, recommend changes/improvements for consideration to management
  • Notify management of any apparent issues of non-compliance as required by law.
  • Coordinate and track weekly/monthly department safety meetings, monthly departmental site inspections and department operational procedures for safety compliance.
  • Coordinate or facilitate company safety orientations and departmental training programs.
  • Prepare and present monthly safety goals, risks and recommendations to upper management
  • Administer resort Emergency Action Plan for Winter and Summer season including trainings for management and executive team.
  • Perform annual defensible space inspections for all corporate facilities and schedule work with operations team and outside contractors.
  • Manage incident reporting across resort for facility incidents, guest injury, employee injury, vehicle accidents, and workplace violence.
  • Administer Authorized Driver and DOT Driver Programs.
  • Manage Certificates of Insurance for independent contractors and assist with contract review.
  • Various Human Resources duties as assigned.
