
Nursing Supervisor

- Performs regular nursing rounds on each of the inpatient units and in the residential program.
- Assists in the management of medical and/or psychiatric emergencies.
- Investigates critical incidents as they occur.
- Serves as a patient advocate and assists in the patient and/or family complaint resolution process.
- Serves as a clinical resource for employees.
- Assures nursing standards of practice are adhered to.
- Role models professional practice when assisting in the milieu.
- Assists in the orientation of new employees to their respective role.
- Evaluates the staffing needs on each of the units and allocates resources accordingly.
- Provides administrative direction and consultation regarding patient and employee issues.
- Implements efforts to minimize and prevent the utilization of patient restraint in the inpatient setting.
- Assists in the coordination of patient admissions in collaboration with the Admissions Department.
- Participates in the supervision and disciplinary action of employees in collaboration with nursing leadership.
- Completes performance reviews on assigned employees and contributes to the performance evaluation of other employees as requested.
- Assists in employee recruitment and retention efforts in partnership with nursing leadership and Human Resources.
- Serves as a medium of communication between individuals and shifts.
- Implements emergency services and initiates disaster planning according to Walden policy.
- Acts as a liaison between units, programs, and other departments.
- Intervenes and resolves staff issues that may contribute to ineffective work practices and/or negative patient outcomes.
- Maintains competency requirements.
- Monitors staff competence through observation of skills and implements initiatives to elevate practice.
- Acts as a role model for employees and uses experience as an educational tool.
- Regularly attends Grand Rounds or other offered educational in-services.
- Attends and contributes to the facilitation of monthly staff meetings.
- Serves as a trainer for identified patient care initiatives.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- 2 years RN experience, and 2 years of Supervisor experience in a general inpatient or behavioral health care setting preferred.
- Massachusetts RN license. CPR Certified
- Must possess knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing processes, therapeutic relationships and processes, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, behavior, and crisis management
