The Energy and Utility Operations Manager develops and executes a strategic energy conservation and high impact utility program to increase efficiencies for the College. The position provides oversight and manages functional areas that include energy (electricity, natural gas and other fuels), water/sewer and solid waste.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs the College’s utility management program and utility tracking database.
  • Analyzes, recommends, and implements changes to existing building systems for the purpose of improving operating efficiency
  • Manages and oversees vendors performing utility improvements.
  • Researches best practices for energy conservation; promotes the College’s energy conservation programs to both internal and external constituents.
  • Researches and analyzes utilizations of utilities; conducts utility audits and makes recommendations.
  • Reviews and provides input on HVAC, lighting and other building systems being considered on facility projects.
  • Identifies potential funding sources for proposed projects and pursues available federal and state grant funding opportunities or utility incentive programs.
  • Conducts life cycle cost analyses, return on investment and other financial reviews in developing and presenting business cases.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, resource management, business administration or related field and eight (8) years of related experience; or Master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, resource management, business administration or related field and four (4) years of related experience.
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation principles, green building principles and concepts of sustainability.
  • Strong analytical skills, especially with operation and maintenance of building systems.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations, national standards, building codes relating to applicable areas of energy management and sustainability, including but not limited to electricity, water gas recycling, refuse, and carbon emission.
  • Experience in analyzing building and system energy consumption patterns to identify efficiency improvements .
  • Experience managing facilities operations, energy and maintenance contracts and financial management of projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applicable to area of responsibility, spreadsheets, computer aided design, and project scheduling programs.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.
