Our environment of entrepreneurial spirit, culture of expertise and our people-first approach will allow you to thrive while continuing to grow in your career.Position SummaryThe VP, Head of Information Security & Infrastructure will safeguard Berkshire’s technology assets while ensuring the resilience, scalability, and efficiency of its Information Technology infrastructure.The VP, Head of Information Security & Infrastructure will develop a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy and execute the supporting tasks to ensure a layered security approach to protect the computing environment at the access points, all data in transit, and at the end points. This role is also responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s core technology infrastructure, including network engineering and system administration.In addition, the VP, Head of Information Security & Infrastructure is responsible for the management and development of the Service Desk team, which is the primary point of contact for IT-related concerns, and their successful research and resolution of technical problems.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Implement a cost-effective information security program, including the corporate-wide strategy, to ensure the Berkshire is protected against existing and evolving cyber threats, and is prepared to respond quickly if an event occurs
  • Manage the core technology infrastructure – function as a system administrator and a network engineer – to support the end-to-end IT infrastructure for corporate headquarters, satellite offices, and the properties. This environment consists of computers, networks, and network gear, servers, conference rooms, cell phones and cloud-based phone systems, and integration with cloud environments.
  • Manage and develop the technical skills and capabilities of the Service desk team and information security and infrastructure personnel
  • Align security and infrastructure strategies with business goals, enabling innovation while maintaining operational integrity and cost-effectiveness.
  • Perpetuate a strong internal control environment, specifically related to identity management, user access controls, the least security principle, information security, and change management.
  • Define and lead Berkshire’s incident response and recovery program to ensure rapid recovery and minimal disruption
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Evaluate technologies and technology vendors in accordance with Berkshire’s Vendor Due Diligence process and IT Governance processes
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and look for opportunities to improve Berkshire’s technical footprint and capabilities and/or reduce costs; Identify opportunities to modernize infrastructure and automate processes for improved performance and cost-efficiency, supporting a secure, scalable and high-performing infrastructure ecosystem
  • Manage technology budgets, vendors and provide project management oversight for critical vendor-related infrastructure and information security projects
  • Manage internal and external resources in a manner that is consistent with Berkshire’s values
  • Provide excellent customer service to Berkshire colleagues
  • This includes good communication, prompt service and quality results for our users to the extent possible
  • Assure that other resources within the IT department are also providing excellent customer service
  • Assist the Chief Technology Officer in the role of managing the technology function and performing other tasks and projects assigned by the Chief Technology Officer; Be capable of leading the technology function in the absence of the Chief Technology Officer
  • Consistently demonstrate use of tact and discretion
Knowledge/Experience:
  • Fifteen plus (15+) years of experience in IT Infrastructure and/or Information Security roles
  • Demonstrated management skills with track record of building teams and identifying, mentoring, and growing talent
  • Exceptional understanding of computer hardware, mobile devices, networks and technology
  • Aptitude for organizing, prioritizing, and managing multiple priorities, using critical thinking and problem solving
  • Demonstrated multi-modal communication style that reaches every stakeholder, specifically excellent verbal, and written communications; ability to communicate with and manage up to senior management
  • Collaborative working style with inclusive work and thinking behaviors, commitment to excellence in teams and work product, with a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence in high pressure and sensitive situations

Technical/Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or other technical or quantitative major; technical certifications a plus – CISSP, CISM
  • Proven experience securing networks and cloud platforms using a zero-trust architecture (Microsoft technologies a plus – Azure, Fabric, Microsoft 365, Defender, SharePoint)
  • Deep understanding of information security tools and technologies and a strong grasp of technical compliance frameworks
  • Expertise in infrastructure architecture, networking, identify management and device management
  • Demonstrated ability to use and learn new technology (e.g., computers/hardware, mobile, software, cloud-based programs)
  • Proficiency with computers, keyboards, monitors, and telephone headsets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Products (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, Power Point)
