Patrol Headquarters is located in the lower level of the Base Lodge Clinic and Ski School building and the cabin is located at the summit. The majority of the duties are performed outside.Job Relationships:· Reports to: Director of Mountain Operations· Employees Supervised: Ski patrol staffJob Specifications:· Two year college or trade school preferred, with continuing education and/or specific ongoing training required.· Minimum two years previous management experience required.· Three to five years ski patrol experience preferred.· First Aid credentials required.· Must be able to write English legibly and possess sufficient verbal and written communication skills to complete assigned tasks.· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.· Must possess a valid driver's license and be authorized for WSI vehicle insurance coverage.· Must be able to work within the framework of the company and the department policies and procedures as set forth in the employee manuals.· Subject to WSI's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties.Specific Duties:Staff Supervision· Participates in the recruiting, interviewing, hiring and scheduling of all ski patrol staff.· Prepares and updates job descriptions and incorporate these into the training and operation manuals.· Evaluate staff on the performance of duties and responsibilities, and holds staff accountable.· Provides leadership, coaching and discipline for staff.· Coordinates training for staff on customer service, ski patrol duties, daily record keeping, safety, loss prevention, company policies and procedures.· Responsible for coordinating training of all required OSHA standards and maintains records.Administrative· Prepare an operational budget and ensure that the department operates within the budget guidelines.· Requests or recommends budget variances when it is in the best interest of guest service and/or safety.· Maintains an adequate supply of tools and supplies needed for staff to perform assigned duties and annual inventory of equipment.· Ensure WMR complies with all permits and regulations needed for slope maintenance, ski patrol operation, a working relationship with the United States Forrest Service.Accountabilities· Responsible for trail marking, in-area closures, hazard and boundary markings.· Consistently enforce slope policies such as area closures, uphill policy and the Montana State Skier Responsibility Code.· Provide assistance to all departments as necessary.· Actively engage in avalanche forecasting and control.Off season/Summer Operations· Provide ongoing WMR staff trainings such as lift evacuation, first aid and CPR/AED.· Assists in projects as assigned such as capital improvements or expansion.· Maintaining and upgrading slope signage.· Assists Bike Patrol with guest service, first aid and mountain rescues.Work Environment:· Lifting may be up to 100 pounds occasionally unassisted.· Expected to lift smaller weights from 25 to 50 pounds often, commonly in awkward positions.· Ski with up to 50 pounds of weight in arms or on back.· Twisting at torso and bending at knees while having ski boots on.· Skiing is moderate to strenuous (breaking trail) and skiing is continuous up to one hour but frequent overall.· Continuously throughout the shift required to twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, grasp with both hands and ski.· Occasionally climb towers, stairs, and work above the ground (heights), walk uneven ground, and push or pull amounts of weight 150-200 pounds assisted.· Ability to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature.· Job may require working weekends, holidays and overtime during peak demand times.· May be required to spend time at a computer work station from 2 to 3 hours daily.· Non-smoking environment.All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas.
