The Coordinator of Student Discipline supports the district’s student discipline policies by facilitating training, tracking data, and assisting schools in maintaining restorative and equitable disciplinary practices. The Coordinator provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the Student Discipline department to ensure a safe, disciplined learning environment. This position engages in overseeing the establishment, implementation, adherence to state policies, and school board policies and procedures regarding student discipline and Title IX. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree required in education or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • CERTIFICATION:
  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification at Level 4 or higher
  • Educational Leadership preferred
  • WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in education, talent development, leadership training, or program coordination.
  • Experience in educator support, coaching, or professional development is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regulating student discipline and Title IX
  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting students with behavior challenges
  • Ability to problem-solve with school-based and district teams
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members
  • Ability to effectively consult and collaborate with school leaders in processes related to student support services.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance, plan, develop, and present professional learning to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and effectively collaborate with various stakeholder groups (district staff, school staff, and parents)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
ESSENTIAL DUTIESDiscipline Monitoring and Support
  • Review discipline referrals and suspension reports from schools in the cluster(s).
  • Provide guidance to principals and assistant principals on policy-aligned discipline strategies and recommended best practices to improve operations.
  • Support intervention programs and the implementation of restorative practices and/or alternatives to suspension to improve student behavior.
Student Discipline Hearings and Documentation
  • Prepare and manage documentation for student hearings, including tribunal preparation and expulsion cases.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the student discipline hearing process, including notifications to stakeholders, preparation of correspondence, and agreements in connection with student disciplinary hearings. (Currently executed by the existing coordinator)
Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Collect and track data related to disproportionality in student discipline.
  • Escalate and communicate concerns to the Cluster Superintendent and Director of Discipline as needed.
Student Transitions and Reentry Support
  • Monitor and track student transitions from Hank Aaron, DJJ, home school, and out-of-district placements in a timely manner.
  • Monitor reentry meetings, including alternative school reentry meetings, and provide support as needed.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Exceptional Education, Social Work, Psychological Services, etc.) to ensure a comprehensive approach to discipline and student behavior is implemented.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
