About the teamFor this Student Engagement Officer position, you'll be working for our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 - graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. The Class of 2023 received acceptances into 81 unique colleges and universities and more than $10M in scholarship award offers. This success is possible because the Freire Wilmington community is a true family, where students and teachers work together to build the future each student wants and deserves.What you'll doAs a Student Engagement Officer, you'll focus on enhancing student attendance and engagement through the strategic implementation and oversight of school and state attendance policies.ResponsibilitiesData Analysis & Strategy Development: Spearhead the collection, monitoring, and analysis of student attendance data. Use insights gained to identify trends, pinpoint challenges, and devise effective strategies to enhance student engagement and attendance.Family & Student Engagement: Actively communicate and engage with students and their families, aiming to understand and overcome barriers to regular attendance. This involves personalized meetings and the development of tailored solutions that address the specific needs of students and families.Collaborative Initiatives: Work in close collaboration with school leadership, teachers, academic advisors, and counselors to create and implement support systems that encourage and sustain student attendance.Community Partnership: Forge and maintain partnerships with community organizations to support and enhance attendance initiatives, leveraging external resources and opportunities.Culture Development: Lead the charge in cultivating a school-wide culture that values and prioritizes attendance, recognizing its critical role in academic and personal success.Who you areYou possess an unwavering belief that our students are capable of success, and you both exude and cultivate our values of equity, love, critical thinking, and diversity.   • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 3-5 years of successful experience in k-12 public or charter schools
  • Creative in your approach, constantly seeking new and effective ways to engage students and improve attendance outcomes
  • Determined and persistent, capable of navigating challenges and setbacks with a positive attitude and a focus on solutions
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to a unified effort to achieve common goals
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse range of individuals and groups
