We take pride in our campus and encourage collaboration with our surrounding communities.Our modern, 902-acre campus features outstanding educational facilities, including an equestrian center, 200-cow dairy facility, cold and warm water fish hatcheries, specialized classrooms and scientific laboratories, two state-of-the-art culinary arts teaching kitchens, child development and childcare centers, and an art gallery and graphic design center.Drawing on a rich academic tradition that spans more than 100 years, our purpose remains constant; to educate future entrepreneurs, scientists, thought leaders, artists, educators, and practitioners to contribute to the sustainability of a healthy and prosperous societal existence in concert with a robust environment.Job Description:A Plant Utilities Engineer 1 serves as shift Supervisor in the Boiler Room and is immediately responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of high pressure boilers.The incumbent in this position will also be responsible for the stationary equipment outside of the power plant including steam lines, mechanical equipment pumps, compressure and temperature control systems.Operates, maintains, and repairs steam and hot water boilers, water supply and return systems, electronic and pneumatic combustion and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems, forced or induced draft fan systems, chiller systems, and other refrigeration equipment.Operates computers which control boiler operations, auxiliary equipment, and HVAC systems.Conducts boiler, HVAC, and water systems testing, analyzes results, and adds chemicals to maintain proper system functions.Balances air distribution systems, and maintains proper air temperature, humidity, freshness, and flow quality.Cleans, inspects, and maintains boilers, by performing chemical cleaning of equipment, repairing brickwork, replacing tubes, and maintaining boiler combustion and emissions.Performs chiller maintenance such as the cleaning of condenser tubes and evaporators, and the maintenance and repair of pumps, air compressors, steam systems, cooling towers, motors, and variable frequency drives.A Plant Utilities Engineer 1 may make mechanical and electrical emergency repairs and may also supervise Plant Utilities Assistants.Requirements:For consideration for this title, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transferOrOpen competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:
- Either 1. Possession of a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License;
- Or, 2. A bachelor's degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering;
- Or, 3. Four years of full-time hands on experience in the maintenance and operation of commercial, industrial, institutional facility, computer applications of digital energy platforms and building analytics and/or performing diagnosis, repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
- Or, 4. Four years of full-time hands on experience in a residential setting performing diagnosis, operation, maintenance repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
- Or, 5. An associate's degree in HVAC AND two years of qualifying experience as described in EITHER qualification #3 or #4 above;
- Or, 6. Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (900 hours) OR completion of an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college AND two years of qualifying experience as described in EITHER qualification #3 or #4 above.
- Or, 7. Graduate of heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force;
- Or, 8. Must have been an enlisted machinery technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard OR possession of a certificate as a Marine Engineer issued by the U.S. Coast Guard;
- Or, 9. Must have been an enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army;
- Or, 10. Must have been an enlisted gas turbine systems technician, submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator reactor control, utilities man, machinist mate, or engineman with the U.S. Navy;
- Or, 11. Must have a Merchant Mariner's Document (MMD) and have been a qualified member of the engine department (QMED) as an oiler, fireman/water tender, refrigerating engineer or engineman with the U.S. Merchant Marine;
- Or, 12. Completion of a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for stationary engineers, plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC Mechanic or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC).
- This is an SG-14 position with a salary of $56,506 to $68,630.
- This is a full-time, permanent appointment.
- This position will be on shift throughout the heating season. Day time hours during summer season. Shift scheduling will be determined by staff seniority and preference.
