Job DescriptionIf you are hired provisionally in this title, you must take and pass the Civil Service Exam, when it becomes available, to be eligible for continued employment.The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.General Support Services (GSS) is recruiting for a Stationary Engineer in its Office of Facilities of Operations, Bureau of Construction and Building Maintenance (BCBM)/HVAC Unit. The Stationary Engineer will:- Operate, monitor, and maintain mechanical systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, and associated HVAC equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter replacement, and belt inspections to ensure system reliability.
- Diagnose and repair HVAC system issues, including electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic malfunctions.
- Ensure proper environmental conditions are maintained within agency buildings by adjusting thermostats and automated controls.
- Take regular readings from gauges, meters, and recording devices; interpret performance data; and report abnormalities.
- Conduct inspections to ensure systems meet regulatory codes and safety standards.
- Collaborate with electricians, plumbers, custodial staff, and contractors to coordinate building-wide maintenance needs.
- Respond to emergency service calls during and outside of normal working hours, including weekends, holidays, and city-declared emergencies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and service logs.Work Location: 260 11th Avenue New York, NY
