SCOPE OF POSITION:Performs variety of tasks associated with the purchasing of supplies, equipment and services. Processes purchase orders, investigates opportunities to reduce supply expense, works with managers and staff of assigned areas to troubleshoot problems and correct purchase order failures. Works under the direction of the Senior Buyer. Reports to the Director of Materials Management.
?RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Processes purchase orders for supplies, equipment and services. Negotiate terms, delivery, pricing, etc. with vendors and sign contracts.
  • Identifies and develops appropriate solutions to reduce the number of exception invoices contained on the Match audit Report. Source new vendors.
  • Routinely holds meetings with department managers of assigned areas to identify and resolve issues or to explore new ideas pertinent to the purchase of requested supplies.
  • Reviews purchase requests from assigned departments to determine if alternate, cost effective substitutes exist and if so facilitate action to reduce costs.
  • Maintain appropriate files and provides reports to assigned areas on a routine basis.
  • Participates in the Hospital Values Analysis Committee and is the purchasing representative to all product related committees in assigned areas.
  • Responsible for working with managers in assigned areas to coordinate product trials, arrange inservices for new products and for ongoing evaluation of existing products.
  • Facilitates excellent customer service and inter/intra department communications and relationships.
  • Responsible for reducing or stabilizing costs of goods and services purchased for assigned areas.
  • Responsible for other special projects as required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
?REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of healthcare purchasing.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Typing and computer literacy with MMIS programs.
  • Must have basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
  • Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed oriented with attention to follow through on processes.
  • Associate degree in business/related field or equivalent experience required, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in health care environment.
