Description
Do you love working with children? Are you looking for a seasonal summer job that is fun and fulfilling? Camp Roar is looking for energetic and team-oriented Camp Counselors to join our team for the 2024 season.
The role of the Camp Counselor is to provide a fun, safe and memorable experience for the campers. They will be responsible for the safety and well-being of the campers. The Camp Counselor will work directly with their group of campers to ensure the group attends and actively participates in the variety of camp activities. They will also supervise a Jr. Camp Counselor, if assigned. The role will vary based on the position and camp group assigned.
Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am-6:00pm; Shifts determined upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of children ranging in ages from 5-14. All groups are divided by age with appropriate ratios.
  • Help the assigned group move between activities based on his/her group's assigned weekly schedule.
  • Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games.
  • Work together with camp leadership to engage campers and maintain a positive, fun environment.
  • Actively participate in all camp activities, including swimming and special events/guests and field trips.
  • Assist camp leadership with activity planning, preparation and facilitation.
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
  • Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to camp leadership.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Ensure that the site is kept clean, sanitized, organized, and free of litter.
  • Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas, including but not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
  • Help guide Jr. Camp Counselors to have a deeper understanding of leadership and counseling skills.
  • Be flexible and fill in where needed.

  • Must be at least 18 yrs old.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Prior camp experience and/or working with children, preferred.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks with independence, motivation and responsibility.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and creatively solve problems.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Pediatric First Aid & CPR Certifications and/or Lifeguard/WSI Certifications at time of hire or able to obtain one month before session start date. (Camp Roar will be hosting certification).
  • Must be able to obtain Background Clearances, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearances, and Mandated Reporter Training (will change with regulations).
Camp Roar will be hosting a CPR class in June 2024, dates TBD.
