This team is primarily responsible for maintaining environmental compliance by assessing and mitigating potential impacts from mining.   • Responsible for the prevention, identification and mitigation of potential impacts to water quantity and quality by ensuring compliance with the following programs; Cortez Operations Groundwater Surface Water Management Plan, Integrated Monitoring Plan, Seeps & Springs Monitoring Plan, Contingency Mitigation Plan, 3M Plan, infiltration Water Pollution Control Permits and any other associate water mitigation and monitoring plan, as assigned.
  • Coordinate with the site Dewatering Team and Corporate Hydrology to assess mine related impacts on surface and groundwater quality and quantity.
  • Assist with the interpretation of, and reporting of, the assigned monitoring programs by routinely assessing results and,
  • Oversee the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of various mitigation activities required.
  • Assess the effectiveness of various monitoring and mitigation measures.
  • Recommend additional or other monitoring and mitigation measured to conform to State and Federal regulation
  • Liaison with various stakeholders (Federal, State and Local) to develop and communicate monitoring results and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure accurate collection and reporting of water monitoring data in accordance with our Quality Assurance/Quality Control processes on a routine basis.
  • Lead and develop Environmental Engineers, Coordinators, and Technicians, as assigned.
  • Assist with planning, design, budget, and oversight of environmental compliance and monitoring programs.
  • Maintain awareness of site water rights and convey any changes to water management system to water rights managers/corporate social responsibility representatives in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with water management strategies and data management.
  • Comply with state and federal health and safety regulations and all company policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in hydrology, hydrogeology, geology, environmental engineering (or similar) preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of verifiable experience in hydrology, hydrogeology, engineering, and/or dewatering preferred.
  • Experience with dewatering systems, hydrologic and hydrogeologic principles, and hydrologic modeling preferred.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring and compliance principles preferred
  • Experience with water rights and regulatory compliance issues in the state of Nevada preferred
  • Ability to prepare technical communications and effectively communicate results to various levels of expertise required
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and in small multi-disciplinary teams required
  • Experience with various surface and groundwater sampling and vegetation monitoring techniques preferred
  • Familiarity with impacts of dewatering activities on groundwater and surface water/vegetation preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills (eg. MS Office, EQuIS, GIS or other data management/computer programs) required.
  • Excellent safety record with ability to demonstrate safety leadership required.
