Closing Date: Open Until FilledSummary:The Cultural Coordinator will administer an interdisciplinary school-based program called The Identity Project. The position will support the project with curriculum development, classroom instruction, data collection, community and family engagement, and compliance with federal grant regulations. This position will work on-site at the local high school in Nanwalek, Port Graham, or Seward High School. It will collaborate closely with teachers, grant collaborators, and community members to facilitate the project successfully.This position will work with the Identity Project coaching staff throughout the four years of school implementation to learn how to combine learning elements of visual, performance, and physical arts disciplines with local community talent. While direct experience in multi-disciplinary arts education is not required, the ideal candidate should exhibit a high curiosity for exploring these educational disciplines. The ideal candidate must be able to work closely with a classroom co-teacher and should care deeply about helping students learn the artistic means to tell their stories and find healing through cultural learning.Major Responsibilities:
- Work closely with a co-teacher throughout the four-year implementation of this grant
- Design and implement an art curriculum specializing in social-emotional learningattributes for high school students using Five Pillars of Indigenous Education.
- Liaise with community artists to organize classroom visits, mentorships, master artistlessons, classroom-in-community events, and other engagements.
- Support school operations as an advisor of Tribal Education affairs, community impact,and professional coaching.
- Participate in training, professional development, and evaluation activities via regularZoom sessions as well as via annual travel to Anchorage or another location inSouthcentral Alaska.
- Track student progress and participation.
- Coordinate program logistics and operations at the school level.
- Create and manage plans and timelines to ensure successful program delivery.
- Provide program outcome reporting to the Chugachmiut grant management.
- Travel throughout the Chugach region to Anchorage or Southcentral Alaska by boat, commercial, or charter plane is required, and employees must be willing and able to travel to establish relationships with.
- 3+ years of experience educating or coaching youth.
- Familiarity with Tribal government operations and Indigenous education systems.
- Familiarity with school operations and logistics.
- Must be self-motivated, organized, and reliable.
- Proficiency in compiling and summarizing data in a spreadsheet, database, and word processing formats.
- Demonstrate a portfolio in lesson planning and/or classroom design.
Hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour for lunch. This is a full-time 37.5 hours per week and 1950 hours per year position.
