Job RequirementsPosition SummaryThe Resource Therapist under the guidance of the Department Director/Respiratory Manager, and Medical Director utilizes knowledge and skill at the advanced level to perform technical duties involving comprehensive lung testing, electrocardiograms, Holter and Event Cardiac Monitor studies as appropriate if performed at this campus. The Resource Therapist is also responsible for daily pulmonary lab management, processing of EKG tracings as well as patient education related to Holter and event monitor set-ups (CMC & UMC only) and retrieval and processing the studies when complete. This position is also responsible to stay competent in the duties as described in the position # 1545 Registered Respiratory Therapist position as a backup when needed. Position requires teaching clinicians that perform EKG tracings as well as back-ups for Holter, Event Monitor set-ups (CMC & UMC only) and PFT testing.This position assists the Manager with annual competency and In-Service Education for the Respiratory procedures and Point of Care Blood Gas Testing as needed. This position assists with training clinicians that perform EKG tracings; Holter and Event monitor set-ups (CMC & UMC only) and Pulmonary Function Testing. The Resource Therapist that oversees point of care testing will be responsible for all CLIA regulations that are applicable such as bi-annual correlation studies; CAP proficiency testing, and other regulatory requirements related to moderate level testing.Minimum RequirementsEducation
  • Associate Degree graduate of specialized training in an approved Respiratory Therapy 2-year program or meets minimum requirements to qualify to take and pass the NBRC RRT examinations
Experience
  • Successful completion of new hire orientation within probationary period.
  • Must successfully complete annual Respiratory Care Hospital required competency assessment.
  • 1-2 Years of critical care experience including performing emergency and elective airway procedures preferred.
  • Specialized training and 1-year experience in Pulmonary Functions and cardiac diagnostic testing preferred.
  • Experience with point of care blood gas testing.
License/Registration/Certifications
  • Must be Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care with RRT credential
  • Must have current South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
  • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Preferred RequirementsPreferred License/Registration/Certifications
  • Current certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • RPFT or CPFT certification is preferred not required
Core Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the EKG database system so that tracings are assigned to the physician panel for interpretation and report processing in a timely manner.
  • Performs and maintains regulatory required daily Pulmonary Function quality control procedures and healthy subject testing as indicated in policy.
  • Submits charges for the EKG, PFT, Holter and Event monitor testing areas as appropriate daily.
  • Performs daily rounds on EKG carts for cleaning, and verification that tracings have been uploaded to the database for processing.
  • Performs Pulmonary Function testing as ordered by the referring physicians.
  • Instructs the patients on the proper techniques for the set-up of Holter and Event monitor studies.
  • Downloads and processes the monitor studies when returned by the patients and forwards to the physician panel for interpretation.
  • Ensures adequate supply inventory available for the cardiology, PFT areas as well as for Respiratory Care department.
  • Functions as a Registered Respiratory Therapist as a backup in the Emergency Center or In-Patient areas as needed.
  • Performs intubations and attend codes and standbys for airway management as needed.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
  • Processes final interpretation reports and delivers them to Medical Records for scanning into the EMR.
  • Submits final reports for PFT and cardiac testing studies to the ordering physician as ordered.
