- Supports or oversees environmental management programs and procedures to uphold compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local environmental regulations (i.e. wastewater, stormwater, hazardous and infectious waste management, non-hazardous waste management, toxic pollution prevention, etc.).
- Maintains adherence to compliance calendar for environmental permit/license applications, forms, permits, and/or reports required for Company's operations.
- Develops and implements programs or actions to prevent, or correct, environmental non-compliance or system non-conformance using knowledge of manufacturing processes, chemistry, and environmental regulations.
- Assures Company's compliance with environmental regulations through regular self-assessment of compliance register, and through ongoing analysis of operating records and test reports, and/or by personal observation and investigation. Implements corrective action where required.
- Provides technical guidance to management regarding environment related issues or concerns, and regulatory compliance through personal expertise or by referring to correct source(s).
- Interacts with representatives from regulatory agencies and escorts through site facilities to explain operations and establish verification that compliance with regulations is in order.
- Supports conformance with the site ISO14001:2018 certified Environmental Management System, including development and management of sustainability objectives/targets, documentation, and internal/external audit facilitation and participation.
- Identifies opportunities, develops, and implements environmental sustainability continuous improvement projects of small to medium complexity to support achievement of site's environmental performance objectives (i.e. waste diversion/reduction/recycling, waste data management, environmental communication and education, external certifications, etc.).
- Manages relationships with external service providers (i.e. waste management vendors, labs, consultants, etc.).
- Participates on cross-functional teams focused on improving site's environmental sustainability performance and/or establishing the site's environmental culture (i.e. Green Team).
- Serves as an internal business unit liaison for the Environmental, Health, and Safety team including facilitating incident investigations and the associated corrective/preventive action process.
- Tracks key environmental metrics and communicates status at the site and global company level on a regular basis.
- Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Sustainable Management, Corporate Social Responsibility, or other related environmental degree.
- Knowledge and/or working experience related to environmental regulatory agencies and requirements (EPA, MPCA, DOT, EPCRA, RCRA, etc.).
- 3+ years working in the environmental compliance and/or sustainability field.
- True Zero Waste, hazardous materials/waste management knowledge.
- Working experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Working experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device or electronics industries.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and/or committees.
- Experience conducting staff training sessions.
- Experience in stormwater management.
- ISO 14001 Environmental Management System coordination.
- Experience in identifying, developing and implementing Sustainability initiatives (energy reduction, pollution prevention, waste reduction and recycling).
- DOT Hazardous Materials General Awareness (Title 49 CFR, Part 172, Subpart H) certificate.
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate.
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Management (Title 40 CFR, Part 265) certificate.
- True Zero Waste Advisor
- Other relevant training and/or certifications.
