Temporary appointments may be terminated or extended in accordance with regulatory guidance, funding and at management's discretion.DutiesMajor Duties: This is not an all-inclusive listAs a AMMUNITION AND EXPLOSIVE HANDLER (TEMP) (TITLE 32), WG-6501-7, you will:
  • The primary purpose of this position is to perform the handling, storage, examining, transporting, and identifying of ammunition and explosives to detect defects, serviceability, deterioration, and compliance with all ammunition and explosives regulations, acceptable standards, specifications, or contractual requirements, as well as policy and procedures.
  • Performs Ammunition Inspections pertaining to the receipt, classification, storage, issue and shipment of ammunition items.
  • May receive shipments of all types of ammunition and verify DA form 1348 against Depot surveillance Records for correct NSN and Condition Code.
  • Verifies quantity of containers for accuracy of nomenclature, stock and lot numbers against shipping documents and signs for shipments.
  • Receives turn-ins from using organizations, counts each item received and inspects for serviceability.
  • Classifies material to assure compatibility of explosive items.
  • Conducts inspection of ammunition being turned-in to determine suitability for further training needs.
  • Takes appropriate steps in the disposition of Ammunition Condition Codes - H (ACCH) material.
  • Ammunition Condition Reports (ACRs) are prepared and sent to item manager for disposition of restricted and/or suspended items.
  • If disposition is determined to be locally demilitarized; contact designated Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and assist with demilitarization mission.
  • Prepares items for shipment to other depots and/or installations.
  • Using the correct Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and packing requirements, ensures all shipments meet DOT requirements, are palletized and banded according to the hazard class division, and establishes the correct weight and cube.
  • Ensures the appropriate 1348's are filled out and sent to Transportation Officer.
  • Performs a variety of routine and special inspections of conventional ammunition.
  • Monitors ammunition and explosive related operations at firing sites and demilitarization areas for adherence to regulations and procedures concerning explosives, compatibility, quantity distance, explosive and personnel limits, transportation and utilization of protective equipment.
  • Inspects storage facilities for proper storage, packaging, warehousing, structural defects, cleanliness, ammunition compatibility and compliance with Quantity-Distance requirements or applicable explosive safety waivers.
  • Inspects propellant charge containers and bulk propellants in storage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
RequirementsConditions of EmploymentMILITARY REQUIREMENTS:Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.   • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license.

  • Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP).
  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Incumbent must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11 (Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives), and must pass a local and national law enforcement files check.
  • Must meet the requirements of FORSCOM Reg 700-4 (Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations) as well as the training requirements of FORSCOM Reg 350-10 to become ammunition certified.
  • Must graduate from the 80-hour HAZMAT Certification course.
  • Must possess and maintain a current state driver's license.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, selectee will be required to sign a form acknowledging understanding of this provision.

Experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:WG-07 - Requires 12 months of specialized experience handling and the ability to learn how to destroy explosives and toxic materials; follow safety procedures in the handling of ammunition, explosives and toxic materials.
