Their job description typically includes the following key responsibilities and duties:Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective lessons aligned with the curriculum and state standards.
  • Modify curriculum and teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Evaluate student learning through various methods (quizzes, tests, projects) and provide feedback.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians about student progress.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with best practices.
  • Work with other teachers, administrators, and specialists to support student success.
  • Provide extra help to students who need it, potentially through tutoring or after-school programs.
Qualifications
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in mathematics education or a related field is typically required.
  • Certification/Licensure: Obtaining a state teaching certification or license for middle school mathematics is necessary for public school teachers.
  • Skills: Strong mathematical knowledge, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, classroom management abilities, and adaptability are essential.
Physical Demands
  • Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes, to sit.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print.
  • Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
