We partner with a wide variety of clients to provide the groundwork and underground utilities (water, sanitary, and stormwater) for residential and industrial construction projects.McAninch Corporation is a seasonal construction contractor.Position Description:Laborers complete a wide variety of tasks for our utility division, including but not limited to: installing pipes, manually shoveling rock, dirt or sand, maneuvering concrete pipes, moving materials around the job site, landscaping, and operating various hand tools/equipment. Laborers are needed on all types of projects, such as highways and bridge, residential, and industrial construction.Laborers will participate in a training program for the first two weeks where you will be evaluated on your safety practices & knowledge, attendance, work ethic, and ability to think critically. Our goal is to develop laborers into leaders on the job site as a pipelayer.Job Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, kneel, crawl and squat as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 115 lbs independently
  • Experience using basic hand tools (hammer, sledgehammer, shovel) or specialty tools (quickie-saw, pipe cutter, etc.) preferred
  • Availability to work up to 10 hours a day Monday through Friday with some weekend overtime
  • Ability to work outside 100% of the time, including in hot, cold and wet conditions. Employees are expected to dress appropriately.
  • Must be able to travel as projects are awarded, typically to 2 weeks at a time. Travel is typically within a 2 hour radius of Des Moines.
Benefits:Our Laborers will now start at $24.54 per hour! McAninch still pays 100% of all benefits, including health insurance premiums and pension dues, as provided by Local 177 Laborers Union. Our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) is a 100% company-funded retirement plan that awards shares in McAninch Corporation without a penny coming out of your paycheck.Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week and employees are paid weekly on every Friday.McAninch Corporation is a seasonal construction contractor. Our active season typically lasts from mid-March through mid-December. Applicants should be aware that year-round work is not guaranteed.
