  • Assist in the administration of construction contract(s) by providing contractor direction, monitoring construction activity, and control in such a manner as to ensure that the Division projects are constructed in compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Provide construction management control and surveillance of the work being performed by the contractor.
  • Assist with maintaining/monitoring fiscal control relative to the execution of the construction contract.
  • Assess the measurement and documentation of work completed on a daily basis, as well as the preparation of monthly progress estimates, final estimate, and engineering administrative and technical reports as required.
  • Assist in managing the performance of preliminary surveys, materials testing, and design work.
The ideal candidate for this position is a technician with education and/or experience in the technical aspects of highway/bridge construction, who can assist in the administration of construction contracts, ensuring compliance with contract specifications.RequirementsConditions of Employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
  • GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing outdoor fieldwork, walking and climbing in varying types of terrain and some lifting of items, up to 60 pounds, may be necessary.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT: You may be exposed to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, and varying weather terrain conditions. The work involves regular and recurring exposure to outdoor conditions involving moderate exposure to rain, snow, cold/hot weather, icy streams, and rivers. Field office work is accomplished in an office setting, typically a trailer type building on or near the project location.
  • SHIFTS: You must be available to work varied schedules, particularly throughout contractor multi-shift construction periods, including weekends, evenings and night work, as dictated by the contractor’s work schedule.
  • DRIVER'S LICENSE: You must have a valid state driver’s license, with a safe driving record, and be fully qualified to operate a government owned vehicle.
  • TELEWORK: Telework for this position is typically only allowed in emergency situations. If telework is allowed, the number of telework days approved will be determined by your immediate supervisor or manager following the agency’s telework policy and guidance. If participating in the telework program, you will be required to sign a telework agreement detailing agency telework policy requirements, working conditions, and expectations for the position.

Or on Education, you must have a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as drafting, surveying, mathematics, physical science, industrial technology, industrial arts, or technical subjects pertinent to construction; or engineering technician work such as electricity, material testing, or engineering mechanics.You can also have a combination of post high-school education and some specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application.For the GS-06:On Experience, you must have at least one year of experience, equal or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level, which included:
  • Experience following documents to perform technical procedures; AND
  • Experience performing detail-oriented tasks to completion.
Or on Education, you must have at least one half a year of graduate level education leading to a master's degree or equivalent with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology.You can also have a combination of graduate education and experience, if you have completed some graduate level classes leading to a master's degree or equivalent with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology and some specialized experience as described above, that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
