The Vision Companies is seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Manager to lead fabrication and production operations for a custom design/build environment. This hands-on role involves managing personnel, workflow, scheduling, and external vendor coordination to deliver high-quality custom exhibits. You'll collaborate across departments to ensure productivity, cost-efficiency, and timely project delivery.Key Responsibilities:Staff Management
- Lead and conduct performance reviews for CAD Detailers, Estimator, Purchaser, Shop Manager, and Artistic Fabrication Manager
- Hire, train, and schedule full-time, part-time, temporary, and subcontracted production staff
- Establish productivity goals for fabrication teams
- Gather information from team leaders to forecast staffing needs and update production schedules
- Use Smartsheet to monitor shop performance against internal targets
- Communicate frequently with Project Managers to align project timelines and resolve delays
- Determine project flow through CAD, CNC, wood shop, 3D printing, and artistic fabrication
- Prioritize workloads and fast-track high-risk components
- Improve operational procedures while maintaining quality and safety standards
- Ensure exhibit quality and durability through regular inspections
- Review CAD drawings for alignment with cost estimates and design intent
- Track rework and warranty-related fabrication costs
- Report production-impacting issues (e.g., machine downtime) to upper management
- Enforce safety policies to maintain an accident-free work environment
- Solicit bids for outsourced fabrication (metal, plastics, mechanical interactives, etc.)
- Coordinate building modifications and specialty parts procurement
- Negotiate best pricing, delivery terms, and lead times
- Manage outsourced work and vendor relationships
- Review active designs for completeness; advise on materials and fabrication strategies
- Work with the Estimator to allocate labor hours for fabrication components
- Collaborate on shipping logistics including equipment needs and vehicle planning
- Support and participate in Visionâs collaborative culture through cross-team engagement and internal events
- 5+ years of fabrication experience (preferred in exhibits, architectural millwork, or custom retail)
- Proven production management background in a manufacturing environment
- Experience managing cross-functional fabrication teams and vendor relationships
- Able to read CAD drawings, blueprints, and MEP systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace
- Skilled in vendor negotiations and project cost controls
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Occasional travel (up to 2 days every other month) may be required
- Travel within the U.S. by car or plane with advance notice
